.204 Ruger Guns: Cooper model 51 Montana Varminter

Re: Tell us about yourself...

Hi. I've never owned a 204 Ruger but I really like .223 and .17hmr. I just purchased a Cooper model 51 Montana Varminter with a laminate stock and 26" barrel, 1 in 12" twist. I don't reload yet so I'm looking for factory ammo suggestions. Gophers and target. Thanks.

Thanks for adding me, I've just taken delivery of a Howa 1500 in .204 with a B&C stock, so the remaining rabbits and foxes on my permissions in Sussex, England need to look out. The HMR has taught the rabbits to be very cautious and the .243 is just too gorgeous (in my eyes anyway, Lakelanders aren't to everyone's taste!) to go out in the grotty weather we have here.
Been an avid follower of this friendly, knowledgeable forum, so thanks again for adding me.

Hi, New member from over the "pond" Mick in UK.
I shoot a Ruger 10 22 and a Ruger 17 hmr.
Just put a Sako on order in 204 new.
there is nothing new 204 Sako in stock, at all in the UK !
And I can not find a 204 Sako second hand either.
So I am on a 6 months waiting list from Finland !!
I did look at the Ruger, Remington,Tikka, Howa, etc
but got stuck on a Sako varmint, so will just have to wait,
And wait !!
Hi to all, Mick..

Hi

I'm from New South Wales Australia and I just ordered my Tikka Varmint stainless in left hand .204 on 22nd December and It should be in around New Year.I have decide on the scope and it will be a Nightforce SHV 5-20x56 MOAR. This will be my fox rifle when I'm not using my CZ .17 Hornet, which is outstanding. I hunt for foxes, rabbits, feral cats and pigs and when lucky enough fallow and Rusa deer.

We are a lot more regulated that our US buddies and am limited to to bolt actions, pumps and levers although the government keeps trying to limit our access to levers. No semi-autos or hand guns unless you jump through many hoops beyond the average shooter.

Hello All, I'm a 49 year old retired HVAC/R technician with 32 years in the field. I've been a shooter for about 44 years. I shoot everything from rimfire to black rifles to black powder! I recently inherited the family farm consisting of 125 acres of mostly woods. I also built the house I currently live in on this land. My interest in the .204 will be thinning the coyote population on my place as well as the neighboring farmlands and also thinning the groundhog here and there as well. I currently don't have a .204 but would like to give this round a try. I do have several .223/5.56 rifles that would do the things I want to do but as they say "variety is the spice of life".
Thanks for having me and I look forward to learning all I can here!

Welcome aboard, creed; sounds like a real nice setup you have there! The .204 will reach out farther, with even less recoil than the .223s. Plus, it works great on both groundhogs and coyotes. Just be sure to knock the snot out of those 'yotes before they clean out the groundhogs first.

I`m John from the embarrassing Socialist State of Connecticut where I`m surrounded by liberal $$$ sucking chafe. Semi retired truck driver, commercial property owner/landlord. Enjoy shooting in general. Hold crop damage permits as needed primarily for deer in orchard and vegetable croplands on my leased out cropland.
Picked up a Ruger M77 Hawkeye Predator a year ago in .223. Good shooter and fun, so I added another Ruger Predator in .204 just for light varmint weight fun. I used to re-load but now just stay with factory offerings and still trying various ammo to see what the .204 shoots best.

Obviously this is "the place" for .204 info sharing. Thanks to the folk who created it.

Hello fellow shooter, I'm Mark and live in the Midwest. First let me thank you for allowing me to be a participant on this site. I'm 56 and I am semi retired, still working on it, lol. My shooting started back in 1979, my first gun was a 35 rem and I still have it. From there it went to a 30-06 then a 7 mag then a ..........I think you all know how that story ends, same as yours I'm sure. I started reloading in '86 and what I probably like most about it other than the satisfaction of knowing that I put the load together that harvested whatever animal it is that I'm after but, its that I still learn something about it every day. Someone always has some new information or some trick that helps me develop better loads. Back in '96 I was looking for something new to shoot, I was at my local shop and he had a Ruger M77 V/T in 25-06, not having one, I bought it. If I do my part I can usually squeak out 3/8 inch groups or less at 100 yards. At that point I was kind of hooked on how tight I could group my shots. Then I moved on to a V/T in 22-250, excellent results with that round too. Next came a V/T in .204 Ruger, another shooter. Yes, I love my V/T's and I love to shoot 'em.

.204 Ruger Guns: Savage Model 25 Walking Varminter

Re: Tell us about yourself...

Hello all, just picked up a Savage Model 25 Walking Varminter in .204. I'm a paper puncher (so far) and am looking to shoot as tight of groups as possible at 100 yards (as far as my range goes). Put a SWFA SS 20x42 scope with Vortex low rings on it and now just need my schedule and the weather to cooperate to get to the range for first shots. I'm not a reloader so I'll be trying all the different factory ammo to find out what my rifle likes best. This is also my first bolt action rifle. Looking forward to having a lot of fun. I love the journey of testing, upgrading parts, tweeking, and practicing to get the most out of my rifles. Then, once I get there, it's time to get something different and start all over again.

Hey Guys and Girls,

Im Dan im from Australia, im in the process of having my 204 custom built based off a t3 action. The rifle main use will be for feral cat destruction as they are rife over here. Main reason for joining up is to get info on load development and so on.

http://www.gcpdarms.com/#!msp-t3-gen-1- ... assis/c60z is the chassis that ill be getting from a great chassis builder here.

.204 Ruger Guns: T/C Dimension

Re: Tell us about yourself...

Post by flylo »

I just bought 3 T/C Dimensions, one in 204 Ruger, one in 22-250 & one in 270 Win. Buds had them for $419 & I love the 3 minute change barrel feature. I've had many T/C Contenders over the tears & can't beat the quality & lifetime warrenty. I live in SW Michigan, love shooting & have a range out the back door on the farm. I also shoot alot of 22LR, 308, 338 Lapua Mag & several more.As BigG above I like SWFA SS scopes & will put a 20x Mil/Mil on the 204.

Hi all, Alex from Australia. Looking for a rifle to replace my trusty 222 Rem I bought a new Remington 700 in 204 Ruger 9 years ago. The 204 is used for fox control and Kangaroo culling.

Hello,
I fell in love with 204 when I purchased a Ruger No.1. I live in the far west valley of Phoenix and shooting and reloading is my hobby.
Now I have an AR upper in 204 that I got in a trade. It has a 16 inch McGowen barrel that has potential. Still getting it set up. Reloading for this rifle. Need a dedicated funnel. I look forward to reading and learning.
