8208 in OZ

I've been reading of people's success with IMR8208XBR powder for a while. It's made by ADI here in Australia, and packaged for the U.S. market.
I emailed ADI recently about the possibility of an Australian release and they said it might be done in the future.

Well I was flicking through the June issue of Australian Shooter mag last night and come across an advert for ADI Benchmark 8208!
I thought I had enough powders to try, but I reckon I could fit one more on the bench
No load data on their site yet, but an email might solve that.
I'll keep ya posted on any info I can find

It's a nice powder, kinda like "Varget-lite". Shorter grains, not temp sensitive. shoots clean.

I received an email from them yesterday, and they have confirmed it is the same powder.
So data on IMR8208XBR can be used.
I also received a whole heap of load data from them, so if any Aussies are interested, let me know and I'll pass it on.

I also inquired about their Trail Boss powder, for slower loads to use on bunnies. They said it is perfectly safe, but as with any other powder - work up the load from a safe start point. They gave me a few pointers on working with Trail Boss, and I'll happily pass them on too if anyone is interested.
If you have a .22lr, then I wouldn't bother though. I'm just looking for ways to make my .204 more versatile, as it's the only rifle I have at the moment - until the finance minister gives me permission to expand my collection

Southy you must have that ESP thing where u read peoples minds as i to have been chasing 8208 and been unsucessfull and my next thing was to contact ADI now but stumbled apon this post.

I am very interested as i think this powder would be perfect for the climate in which i live due to its low temp sensitivity!
So any info i can get will be muchly appreciated! If i can indeed be obtained here i will have to get my loacal shop to order a bunch of it cos i reckon it will fly off the shelves.

Boomer - I've already asked at my local but the gun guys weren't there (mostly deal in rural supplies like fencing and chemicals). I'll be following it up today.

Nah. My local can't get any yet unfortunately. Should be able to soon though.

Meanwhile, I gave Trailboss a go before I went to sea. Not much variation in f.p.s. (2300-2500), and not real accurate either, but I've got a bit of room to move under my lowest charge. A lot quieter than the regular powders (and slower of course) but not quiet enough to leave the muffs off

I started using BM 8208 about 3months ago but only in my 308win….. It comes in a 1kg pack and cost me $80 bucks, It has the same kernel size as BM-2, and the burn rate fits between 2206H and Bench Mark 2.
I haven't tried 8208 in a 204R yet but from the data i have on hand, Velocity figures looks very promising.

I'm still waiting for the transport guys to get their depots in line with the stupid worksafe rules.
Been months since we got any powder deliveries at the LGS

I've used BM8208 in my 204...I just used the load that was in a write up in one of our local gun magazines...cant remember which mag...the load he used was 27.5gns with a 40gn projectile...it was chronographed at 3750fps..,I've used that load to shoot rabbits out to 485yds with a 40g Berger...it seems to be a bit slower then then BM2, probably closer to 2206H.

YES, I experimented with 8208 in my CZ Varmint 204R and 35gr BERGER bullets.
It was a close second to becoming my pet load because it showed very good avergage / modest velocity (not screaming).
It produced very low SD readings ( approximately 15 ) compared to H4895 and Benchmark.
It is excellent in the 204R !

My pet load is with N133 averaging 3710 fps and SD 15
This is my accuracy load using NORMA brass, CCIBR 4's
