cfe223 39gr bk

i cant find any data for the 39 gr bk and this powder what would be a good starting point and the max for cfe223

The 2012 Annual Manual by Hodgdon does not show the 39BK, but they show loads for starting the 40 Grain v-max at 27.3 and a max load of 29 grains of CFE223. I would think that would be a good working area. You might work just slightly below those and work up. BIll K

I'd send Hodgdons an email. Did it recently to ADI and they emailed load data for 4 different powders behind 39BK. Peace of mind getting it straight from the manufacturers.
Their reply was fairly swift too - 1-2 days I think

You can always use data for a HEAVIER bullet and safe

I got good groups using 27.9gr of CFE223 with the 39gr BKs. 28.5gr did pretty well also. Listed max for 40gr Vmax is 29.0

i have got really good groups with 29.5 gr with no signs of to much pressure was wanting to know if that is over the max

I am up to 30gns CFE223 behind 39gn SBK. Chrono took a hissy fit so no fps but no pressure signs. Was'nt shooting groups but looks good, just trying to get the speed and find any pressure signs and work back to find best speed and groups. I will get chrono working and see where I am at 30gn and go for groups around that.

By my Hodgdon book, it appears that they show max of 29 grains. So you are pushing it. But you rifle may take it, but always, I would be thinking, How long? I would be careful. Bill K

Hodgdon doesn't make any smokless. CFE223 is made by General Dynamics in St. Marks, Florida.

Also remember that MAX is what your gun/brass says, not what a book with a potentially different burning rate.

I understood your point. My point was know WHO is making the powder. General Dynamics won't tell you anything about it.
Start with Hodgy's info. Since he is "wondering" if something is over max; he is abviously new to the reloading game; OR wants to find Max for HIS gun. A book will never tell you max in YOUR gun.
