M77 Varmint vs Fox
M77 Varmint vs Fox
Took this little guy facing me at about 100yards, was hoping the bullet would stay in him as I was wanting a fox mount for my man cave. Not the case, that 32gr vmax abolutely destroyed that fox. Opened him up like I've never seen done before. Not bragging here, this is the G rated photo. I guess I'll try a different angle next time or a less potent cartridge.

Nice shooting..... I doubt the 32 grainers will always exit on a fox if you hit the chest area. Dont give up on the 204 just from one shot. You could try a tougher constructed bullet etc.
It's hard to detect good luck, It looks so much like something you've worked hard for and earned.

Re: M77 Varmint vs Fox
Can't comment on the 32s, but I whacked a fox at just over 100 recently with a 39BK. Couldn't find any damage until I skinned him. Found a tiny entry point in neck/shoulder region, no exit, and very mushy internals. He stopped instantly, not even a flip.
It is a great calibre, but as with any other, shot placement is the biggest factor in damage.

I have some 35gr bergers loaded up I think I'll try next. Not giving up on this cartridge, way too much fun so far!!
Re: M77 Varmint vs Fox
Well as I said I would give the 35gr bergers a try, shot pretty nicely for being a little cool out off the tailgate of my truck.

Those 35gr. Bergers work really well. I have the 37gr. CRT's work just as well and very accurate in my rifles.

Re: M77 Varmint vs Fox
Ya it was messed up pretty bad, the side and the bottom was blown right out the guts were hanging out. I had hoped it could be repaired but I was told not. Too bad, his fur (what was left) was really nice. I usually don't shoot the foxes, they're good to have around (here anyway). Their numbers are pretty good right now, yotes are out of control but a seem a little skittish, they tend to get a little lead thrown their way during the late whitetail season.
