pulling .20 cal bullets

'Just bought an old Herters (Forster I believe) puller. Came with a .22 collet. Probably no way to make it work on my .20 cals, right ?
Why else would they sell collets for every caliber, right ?

Well, it ain't stopping me from asking, lol!... anyone find a way to use a .22 collet on .20's?

In the mean time, when I have my next order ready, a .20 collet will be on it, but is gonna be a loooog time...

bs: You're right, no .22 collet will work for a .20 cal bullet just by virtue of design....ain't no way.

This is one of the reasons for over 30 years I've used the inertia-type bullet pullers; no bullet damage (bullet is reuseable), and no collets to dink about with. I've still got my collet-type puller, but don't use it any more, much preferring the inertia unit. Bullets pulled with a collet puller always have squished/deformed jackets that render the bullet less than perfect in terms of accuracy.

I put a piece of cork in the bottom of my inertia puller to protect both lead and plastic bullet tips...works perfectly with zero bullet damage. JME

Understood, RIO, just wondering if someone had a trick.

I have an inertia puller... and its great for my bolt gun. The loads for the AR are pretty deep and take forever to loosen up.

I understand inertia and momentum, so I think I'm hip on the proper way(s) to "whack".

So I guess I'll wait till my next order, and pick up a collet...

Another thing that works well in inertia pullers to prevent bullet damage is a set of foam ear plugs.

You know, I should try seating them a tad deeper just to break the friction/weld and wack again... I bet they'll knowck out much easier after that.

wood is the best to I have found when using the inertia floor bangers it just has enough density and less oh no I may crack my inertia assy.Wood just feels better and not overly hard and enough bounce that you don't flinch each down stroke.

Just to let you know I just pulled 40 204 rounds apart they were 35 gr. Bergers in Remington cases with my RCBS 22 cal bullet puller and had no problem not a mark on the bullets. Tighten it up a little bit before you start the bullet up into it and it will work and save your money.

I think seating depth is my problem... the rounds are loaded for my AR mag, so there is jut the tiniest slice of shank-side of the olgive, on which to grab... but man, I'm willing, I'll give it a wack!

Also, I'm using a Herter's (Forster) puller, and the more I search on the issue, these seem to be the worst ones out there if you don't have a lot of bullet to bite...
