I, for one, would love to see a 40 gr and even your 39 grain bullet in boat tail. Bill Kwirelessguy2005 wrote:i have the ability to offer 40 grain bullets, however with the dies that are currently being used they would have to be a flat base 40 grain bullet. To be honest the flat base design is good out to about 350 - 400 yards, beyond that range the boat tail bullets really start to shine over the flat base. If enough people are interested in a 40 grain option i will look into it. Anyone interested Please post up or PM me.
Thanks,
Brad

Re: New 20 Caliber 35 grain Bullets
i was able to make it to the range today and while i was there i did some testing with our new 34 grain bullets in my Factory CZ 204 rifle. I was able to shoot a .401 group with the 34 grain bullets and 26.5 grains of Xterminator powder. Keep in mind this was a load that i just threw together before i left for the range. I am sure with a little fine tuning it could be much more accurate. Any time i can shoot sub half inch groups from a factory rifle I am pleased, especially considering i am just an average shot.

When you can, can you post a pic of the 40s? Also send it to predatordynamics@gmail.com (I can see it sooner)

Re: New 20 Caliber 35 grain Bullets
To be honest..... That has not been my real experience with making and shooting swaged 40 grain and even heavier (not necessarily longer) bullets, both flat based and boat tailed bullets, for a lot of years. In the smaller calibers, the boat tail offers very little, if anything at all in trajectory, and for the most part the flat based bullets are far more accurate at typical shooting ranges in normal barrel twists.wirelessguy2005 wrote:i have the ability to offer 40 grain bullets, however with the dies that are currently being used they would have to be a flat base 40 grain bullet. Again, what I'm saying comes from quite a few years of actually swaging and actually shooting 20 caliber bullets in a lot of different weights and configurations at both short and long ranges. Today my boat tail die is gathering rust based on the same comparable ballistic results I've obtained from numerous 20 caliber rifles. For years I've swaged nothing but flat based bullets. Maybe I've missed something....
Anytime that you boat tail a small caliber bullet, the overall length of the bullet can create accuracy difficulties not seen by comparable weight flat based bullets in conventional barrel twists.
I will add that boat tailed bullets do give real ballistic advantages in larger calibers where bullet length is not so critical (the large the caliber, generally the better the results you get), but not so much in the 20 and smaller calibers.

Re: New 20 Caliber 34 & 40 grain Bullets
Brad,
Have you (or anybody) been able to test your new 40gr in a 12 twist yet? Been wanting to try some of your bullets for shooting paper at 100 and 200 yards and contemplating which ones to try first.
Thanks

Re: New 20 Caliber 34 & 40 grain Bullets
they both shoot equally well out of a 12 twist barrel. Accuracy on both bullets is almost identical as well. I would say its really personal preference on which weight to try. You could always get a box of each to see which one your rifle prefers.

Re: New 20 Caliber 34 & 40 grain Bullets
that's probably the best thing to do.
oh darn, looks like i'll just have to spend more time at the range.

Those look pretty good. Any field reports regarding terminal performance?

Here is a picture of the terminal performance of the 34 grain bullets on ground squirrels. The photo is courtesy of a customer in California. He says they have good expansion and has found they perform best when pushed between 3,800- 4,000 fps.
