I thought that was a mistake, did they ever make 33gr?

Yes they did. I've still got two boxes on the shelf. They are very blunt nosed compared to the higher BC V-Max, but still have the poly tip. They've been out of production now for at least five years or thereabouts. Looking at the bullet, it appears it may have been intended for the 22 Hornet.....just a guess.

Malazan....thanks for posting that Cooper factory load info. :D

My Cooper Phoenix likes the Sierra 39 and 32 grain Blitzking bullets as well as the 32 V-Max. It likes Benchmark and Alliant 10X powders. It doesn't like the 40 grain V-Max quite as well. The Nosler 40 is also just ok.

It looks like this topic hasn't been visited in a while but I would like to know if you have any seating depth information also from Cooper? I am working on some new loads for my 6mm Remington.

Take the Cooper info above with a grain of salt. I just noticed the list includes the 20 VarTarg, and lists a charge of 33grs of H335. From experience with this small case, I'd be surprised if it would hold 25 grains of H335, let alone 33 grains. That's more than is used in the 204 Ruger!

Cooper loads all test ammo to SAAMI length specs, so not much info to be gleened from any of their factory data in that regard. Seating depth is something the handloader just has to dink about with to find the sweet spot for HIS rifle, not from others with similar guns; that approach seldom works. A rifle barrel is an individual critter unto itself. :chin:

When I was having problems with my New 20 VT Cooper Phoenix, I was on the phone with Ford Davis at Cooper. He told me that their test loads for the 20VT is 18.3 gr H335, using 32gr Vmax and wsr primers. Trim length 1.395, OAL to the tip of bullet, slips my mind as I can't find my notes from when I was talking to Ford. I shot this load thru my Cooper, just to try it. Personally, I think H335 is a little slow for the 20VT, but fed and cycled thru my rifle really good, Never cronographed, and I could not get the same results as with the target that was shot with my rifle at the factory, but that figures, as I am not a competition shooter, nor a seasoned shooter. Never claimed to be. I just really enjoy seeing skippy learning to fly, thru my scope.

That and the fact, I believe, their test target/grouping is done at around 43 yards, not 100 yards.. Bill K

Rick, I saw that 33 also, but after looking further I believe that is the bullet weight. The charge weight, I think, is 20 grains. If I read it correct. No way could 33 grains be fitted into the 20VT.. But 20 plus some, yes. Bill K :)
