.204 and Black Wolf
I posted this story a few months ago on another forum - thought you .204 fans might enjoy.
I was riding my snowmachine looking for wolves and moose sheds in my favorite area and.....
You never did see a feller nail the gas, lock up the brakes, throw the gloves and goggles, remove rifle from scabbard, chamber a round, scope caps up, step away from the "view blocking" snowmobile exhaust, drop to one knee, take aim, oops safety on, re-aim, miss, miss, WHAMO as fast I did on December 26th! I consider myslef lucky, although I feel pretty good about making the 215 yard running neck shot. The wolf folded and never moved. My first wolf - finally. It was a balmy 20 degress.........BELOW zero! I howled with the rest of the pack for an hour or so afterwards, but they weren't coming in. I went back out yesterday but did not find any wolves.
It was a 97 lb female with broken and worn teeth. I suspect she was pretty old and very good sized for a female. They say the biggest males will go 140.
I used my Model 700 in .204 Ruger with 35 gr Berger handloads. There was a .20 cal hole going in, it broke her kneck, and didn't exit. A wolf with a .204 - that oughta stir the pot!!
Now then, let's see if I can post the pictures...

WOW!! That is amazing. We don't get photos like that around here. Usually the animals 'round here tip the scales at around 3lbs.
Absolutely amazing. I think I would have to have something like that mounted. Absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for sharing!

Oh Wow!! I am impressed. Beautiful looking animal.
Having been a small caliber fan ever since the 17 Rem. came out, I'm not surprised with your 204 results.
Thanks for sharing that and those are some great pictures.

Re: .204 and Black Wolf
Well done! I might pick a bigger pill for that size of critter if I had the choice, but sure wouldn't hesitate if the 204 was close by. Good thing you didn't have to track him...that might make me a little nervous
