Why dog my cats! I never knew they had bucks in those Misery Hardwoods, reckon I best put my glasses on next time I go hunting.

Nice collection of deer, Joe. I hunt pretty close to you, in Howard County.

One or two anyway, nothing like Iowa, where there is a booner behind every tree from what I hear....TONK wrote:Why dog my cats! I never knew they had bucks in those Misery Hardwoods, reckon I best put my glasses on next time I go hunting.
The buck I killed this year fooled me, thought he was a 10 pt, but he din't have any brow tines....... Oh well... He still tastes good off the grill.

CalloaJoe, I used to hunt up around Kirksville back in the late 60's & 70's for my bucks! A good friend of mine in Iowa showed me some pictures from his camera's on stand and I have never seen such large bucks live on the hoof before mind you. The smallest I saw was a 12 pointer with bases big as my wrists! I haven't been back since we lost our hunting honey hole for whitetail bucks, they sold the farm and no lease could be purchased as before....tuff luck I guess.

Well, I was lucky enough to buy my place, before it got too expensive....
It' ain't big, just short of 60 acres.... But, it's in a good spot....
Deer just keep getting bigger and better since antler restrictions went in.
That is why I was upset with the buck I killed this year, if not for the fact I thought it was a 10 pt, I'd a let him walk.... But, I've killed a lot of bucks over the years, and I am hung at 9pts.... Each of my boys has killed a 10 or more, and they keep giving my crap about it.... So, I thought, time to get that monkey off my back... But, my near 50 year old eyes fooled me, and when I saw he had 4 up top on the left side, figured he was probably a 10... But not even a hint of brow tines... Oh well.
