Reloading for my AR-204

Post by hondacr21 »

First off please take it easy on me I am new to this reloading stuff, I have read miles of information but cant seem to figure out what I need as far as reloading dies for an AR platform. From what I gathered the Neck sizer die will increase brass life while the full length doesnt, I am wanting to buy everything needed for reloading my AR 204 at one time, and I am stuck on this neck sizer and full length sizer stuff. Here is the Die set I planned on getting. If someone could just point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

For auto-loaders you really have to full length size for the gun to function. Now, if you're going to single load it "all-the-time", then neck sizing only will work.

Also, since its an auto loader you'll want to look up and find out what the recommended minimum neck tension should be. For my bolt actions I use .003 tension. Whether or not that is adequate for a AR in 204 is beyond me. For my AR's in 223 I use the STD full length dies and they work just nicely.

I reload for both bolt action and an AR in .204 and I FL size all of my brass to keep things constant.... I've found that my Forster Benchrest dies provide excellent and consistent results....No run out that I've been able to determine and very good accuracy..

I'm just getting started with 204 as well. The 2 Die Forster set was what I got. you can find them for like $65, which isn't bad at all. You'll def want to do a FL size everytime in an AR. Anybody loading for an AR platform 204? I got a 24" Pac-Nor 1 in 10" hoping to fling the 39 gr blitz kings effectively. Crossing my fingers for Varget, but not sure if it's the best choice.

JR, If you have some locally, try some Ramshot X-Terminator powder....less expensive than a lot of others and meters like water....It has provided me with some excellent results, using either standard or magnum primers with the 30gr SBKs...
