Hey guys,
just picked up a 527 Varminter the other day in 204. Has anyone put on the Leupold rings instead of the ones CZ gives you? Is there any benefit to doing this, as the Leupolds are $72? Also, is it possible to use leupolds torx screws in the supplied CZ rings instead of the original screws?

Re: CZ 527 rings
The CZ screws might be metric, best to check it out with a thread gauge. If they are, then the Leupold Torx screws won't work. I'm betting they use SAE screws though, and the Torx will work just fine.
The Leupold rings are usually a wee bit better in quality, the internal surfaces only need burnishing, never had to lap any of them ever. Your rifle should have come with rings, as CZ's are shipped with them. Some dealers take them out of the box so they can "sell" them to you...... Call CZ for yourself and check it out.

Thanks Rick!
The rifle did come with rings. But after setting up my Cooper, I was spoiled by the Leupold system. It's just very sturdy and solid. And I love the torx system compared to using a screw driver where i'm always afraid i'm going to "round the head off" haha.

The CZ screwsare metric, or at least mine are.

Re: CZ 527 rings
I put Burris rings on mine. The CZ rings that came with mine were poorly finished and had many sharp edges.
I think my Burris rings were around 35-40 bucks. I like them a lot better than the factory rings.

Re: CZ 527 rings
I have a friend with a 527 who just went through a horror story. Screws on the rings locked up, wouldn't come apart.
He called CZ and they sent another set, but in the meantime he did some research and found it to be a common problem with the CZ rings.
He opted for a set of Burris rings and has been MUCH happier.

Re: CZ 527 rings
Actually my experience with the CZ rings has been good. After mounting them on my rifle they took just a very little work with my lapping bar to come around and have been on the rifle since. I have no complaints.

If you don't mind vertically-split rings, Warnes are another option; they have torx screws, too. I went with mediums on my 527 after having the bolt handle modified. www.jamescalhoon.com
