Re: remington 7 1/2 primers ?
The story behind the 71/2 is that when remington was developing the 17 remington, was they were having some serious pressure issues. So, they re thought the small rifle primer, made the cup thicker and today we have the finest small rifle primer that money can buy!! That is why when I load my 17's I use this primer exclusively, had some issues with various 17 cal rifles and federal 205M's as far as pressure goes. Actually wrecked am SPS varmint in 17 fireball due to several overly hot batches of remington factory ammo and a couple of "warm" handloads. Blew out 3 primers on factory ammo (in the winter) and 2 205M's, after that, the gun would not shoot nearly as well as it did before and I had to dump it. The new one I have is fine but it still gets the 71/2 exclusively. There you go, a little history lesson for the day!
