40gr Bergers anyone
40gr Bergers anyone
Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and it looks like there is a lot of great info here. I have a cz 527 varmint and I have had great luck with the 35grain Bergers over a max load of H-4895 from the Hodgdon data page. I'm wondering if anyone has any data for the 40grain bergers. Any info would be great. I don't really have any reason to swich to the 40 but I am assuming that they will perform better at longer ranges. So far I have taken three coyotes and a bagder with the 35gr load mentioned above. The shots were from 30 to 200yards and the kills were very clean with almost nonexistent pelt damage.

I have had good luck (5 shots in .250" or smaller) with the 40gr. Bergers using 25.1gr of RL-10X with Rem. 7 1/2BR primers in both Remington and Winchester brass C.O.L. 2.256-2.260" (3750fps) YMMV

Re: 40gr Bergers anyone
Idyoter.... I shoot 40gr. Berger Varmint bullets in my T/C Encore .204 Ruger Stainless Barrel but they are coated with WS2 and they will group .75 @ 200 yds (5 shots). Now un-coated Hornady's (40gr.) will make egg shaped holes in the target @ 100 yds. So I shoot 32gr. Hornady's and WS2 (danzac) coated 40gr. Bergers and stay away from the others using my T/C "Encore barrel". The Savage 12 VLP and 12 LRPV that I have in .204 both digest the 39gr. Sierra BlitzKing's and shoot in the .1's and .2's, so I dont use anything else in them. The only .204 that I use a coated (WS2) bullet in is the T/C Encore and it seems to help. Some times you have to push them a little faster to get them to stabilize. All three have 1-12" twists. YMMV

Re: 40gr Bergers anyone
I've had excellent groups out of my Remington SPS Varmint working up a load using 40gr Bergers (24.5gr H-322, Rem 7 1/2 primers.COL 2.250" Remington brass trimmed to 1.840"). 5 shot groups were averaging under 1/2". This will be my coyote hunting load. The 35gr Bergers work great on coyote's, so I think this should be even better. Berger bullets are the most accurate and deadly pill made IMHO.

Yep.......H-4895/ 27.0/ 40 Berger 5 shot group .158 @ 100 yards,
Ramshot TAC/ 27.5/ 40 Berger 5 shot group .311 @ 100 yards.
Custom Hart barrel 1 in 12 finished at 26" on a Rem 700 action.
Great bullet, but the Sierra 39 grn has a better BC.
Later and Merry Christmas to all!!

Still love this group
40 Bergs on top of 25.3gns Benchmark. 2.275 COL. Fed 205M primers.
Believe it or not my VLP punched this group at 200yds. Just don't ask me to do it again

Savage VLP + NF 12x42 + 35 Bergers = .
Re: 40gr Bergers anyone
Thanks for all the great info guys. I just got some loads worked up with 322 and the 40s and I think I will definately be trying the 4895 load I've had great results with that powder.
