Savage Model 16 FCSS 204 Ruger

Post by FireBallGuy »

Finally learned last week that my model 12 was going to be replaced under warranty from last october!?! Took a tour through the warehouse and found the model 16 in 204. It has the new bedding system and a 22" BBL. After buying the SPS in 17 fireball I have really come to appreciate a shorter lighter gun to carry around. My only concern with the new savage id the tube is pretty skinny on this gun. The only time I put a lot of shots down the barrel is at the range when I am working up loads. In a hunting situation the shots come slower. Has anyone out there tried out any of these new accustock savages? Have read many positive reviews of the new guns but that skinny tube leaves me wondering. It is between this or an SPS stainless same caliber. ANy thoughts woiuld be great.

I have one of the earlier Savage 16FSS with the AccuTrigger and love it....

As long as I don't excessively heat up the barrel by rapid shooting, it's as accurate as my custom AR....I just have to let the barrel cool much more often..

When I first got it, several of my friends had gotten Remingtons, CZs, etc... and mine was more or less the 'ugly duckling' until we got to the range to try out different ammo for accuracy before going on a Prairie Dog shoot and I was out shooting them and then they tried my rifle and it still out shot theirs...

Thats kind of what I thought. As long as I don't hammer the bullets through the gun it will be fine. My last savage 204 experience has not been pleasent as it has taken 8 months to resolve a waranty issue and an entire yote' season without one of my favorite calibers. Have the savge put away at work just waiting on the word to bring it home. Like the new stock arrangement and I always wanted a varmint gun with a clip anyway. Thanks for your thoughts old turtle I think I will be happy with this choice.

I have a Model 116FHSAK in 30-06 with the AccuStock and love it. The stock is definately stiffer than earlier Savage composite stocks. I would buy another Savage with the AccuStock in a heartbeat as long as momma didn't find it. My safe is full and now I have them in other places and she asks why is it out of the safe so I generally tell her I am working on it, that will only last so long. ;)

You need to "Come Clean"....go out and buy her a new washing machine and then get yourself a new safe...
