17 fireball
Hi, i've just aquired some H4198 powder, and would like to know if someone can say if it's suitable for 17 fireball reloading, and if so, any advice on starter loads would be welcome. cheers, ken b.

Re: 17 fireball
Ken: The answer is 'yes', start at 13.6, max at 15.6 grs (Hornady Third Edition for the M4 - same case), using 25gr HP. The link below should give you hours of reading on the 17 Mach IV / 17 Fireball:

My Sako Vixen in 17 Mach IV is about to leave (along with various 223's and 204's) on another extended Rat Rodeo, teaching Skippy to fly once again via Berger and V-Max 25grain "flight aids"
Cheers from Oregon!

Hi Rick, i bought that powder as it was recommended for the 14 which uses a 17 FB case, i was pleased to hear it will do for the 17FB as well.It cost me 53GBP for a 1LB tin, at the current exchange rate thats about $79.50, not cheap! Many favorite loads for the 17M4 (FB) here.
If I recall correctly this data is from Saubier.

Re: 17 fireball
H4198 is an excellent choice for the furball!! Have not tried it in my new remy since it has been overhauled but I am VERY sure it will shoot well. My present SPS favors a charge 1/10 of a grain off max of RL-10X......really small 5 shots groups (sub 1/2"). You may also want to give RL-7 a go. I was hard pressed to find any data for it but I am up to 16.7 grains in the furball under 25 grain Vmax's with no signs of pressure thus far. Also.....Benchmark is also superb, H322, H335...many excellent powders suitable for this cartridge and I am sure there are others but this is pretty much all I can get locally.

Re: 17 fireball
FireBallGuy, thanks for all that information. I will have to stick with the H4198 as i bought for a .14 cal project and i can't see myself using it all up on 14s before it evaporates. thanks again, ken.
