270 Ruger M77 I could use some of your pet loads for deer.

270 Ruger M77 is driving me crazy trying to get it to group well. I could would like to try some of your pet loads for your M77. I have burned through a lot of powder and bullets looking for tight groups.

Pick a 150 gr bullet, work up to near max load of H4831 (or signs of pressure at the primer), a CCI Magnum primer, and seat 0.010" off the lands.

Has been MONEY in 4 different brands of 270's - Ruger, Win, Rem, and a Savage.

I have a belgin mauser in 270 win and found it to like VV N-160 55.0/ with either a 130 sierra gameking or a 135 sierra matchking.
Will print 1/2" at 200 yards 3 shot group
May be worth a try??

I have got the rifle in the past to group good with 110gr Vmax 110gr Barnes xpts, 130gr Sierra Boat tails, but the 130gr Sierra Pro hunters don't want to group, I bought some 130gr Remington core locks from Midway and they have grouped well first time out. These are $16 dollars a 100 from Midway. I can't seem to get the Hornady 150gr to group or the 140gr Hornady boat tails to group. I have gone back over my brass and resized it full length and trimmed it. I have tried W760, IMR4831, and adjusted bullet depth. I like the idea that I can shoot the bargin bullets, but I would like a heaver bullet and it bugs me that I can't get the fancy ones to group well.http://www.204ruger.com/forum/posting.p ... 5850363515#

Ryan...........It might be a bullet diameter issue or twist rate?/
If you have a micrometer measure the diameter of the bullets that shoot to the tenths place (ie .2772) then measure your 150's and see what you get. sometimes they get a little fat and certain barrels don't like them.

150- great elk-moose bullet

My favorite bullets are 130 gamekings or ballistic tips with IMR4350 and 140 Barnes TSX with H4831. All using WLR primers and Remington brass.

Usually 60.0 grains (the standard max load) works best, usually grouping about 1" (often less) at 3100+ fps. One Remington rifle worked best at 62.0. With 150 grain bullets I have had success with H4831, RL22, and MR3100.

Amen, amen, amen! Old Death, my Model 70 Classic, dotes on H4831/130s, it's a sure thing for that rifle, hence it's name
I've got a Howa 1500 that shoots the same load reasonably well, too, so I haven't done anything with it yet. Why bother? Bang------------------thump.

My old 77R Ruger favored 4350/130s, but it shot the 4831 stuff well, just not quite
as well, and it liked 760, too.
I can't get my favorite 130 component bullet any more, but Remington's Bronze Point bullets were dynamite on deer. Yeah, I know, Ballistic Tips, but I had better luck with the Bronze Points.

I know some may say a 90gr hollow point is not going to work on deer, but this very accurate load I found has more energy at 200 yards than a 200gr out of a 44mag at the muzzle. Not sure any ballistic tip or HP is what I'd want for deer I plan on eating, but this load should make them dead. I have not tested it on deer, as i found it looking for a flatter shooting load to use on lighter game. We can't use rifles on deer in my area. Only shotgun.

3.200" COAL (to tip)
CCI BR2 LR primers
Muzzle Velocity (chrono 10' from muzzle)= ~3500fps
I tried going up to 54.8gr, and velocity would not improve. It held accuracy, but 54.2 worked so well I figured why use any more. I'd like to try this load with the chrono out at 100 now.

Ryan you might try nosler 150 partition with a starting load of 57gr to 59gr of H4831 or H4831sc same powder an a federal 215 primer it works in bouth of my 270`s about same point of aim in eather rifle an it puts Moose an Elk down real nice. in mt rifles it`s about 2850 to 2900fps an well 1/2 in

I don't know how much this will help, but I have a 77 that is first year production. I fought it for a number of years and finally found 4350 with the 130 gr. Sierra and the 140 grain Hornady groups under an inch. H 4831 shot groups anywhere from 1 1/4 -1 1/2" at 100 yards. Good enough for the deer that I killed, but I was not satisfied until it shot under an inch. Today it shoots about 5/8 - 3/4". The Hornadays perform perfectly on deer.
