.204 IN A WEATHERBY VANGUARD VARMIT SPECIAL

BRAND NEW TO THE FORUM. JUST PURCHASED MY FIRST .204 TODAY, IT IS A WEATHERBY VANGUARD(ON A BUDGET). NICE FIREARM BUT THE TRIGGER IS THE WORST I'VE COME ACROSS. IS IT WORTH TRYING TO ADJUST THIS TRIGGER OR JUST REPLACE IT WITH A TIMNEY. WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE ANY INPUT. ALSO PLANNING TO LOAD 39GR. SIERRA BLITZKINGS WITH 25.5 GRS. OF BENCHMARK. ANY INPUT ON LOADS WOULD HELP GREATLY.

Welcome to the Forum. I had the same rifle in 22-250, and found that dropping a Timney into it was the right solution for me. It's a very accurate rifle. One of my favorite loads for my .204's is the 39BK with 25.1gr of RL10X. Good luck.

Welcome to the forum, you'll definitely enjoy shooting that 204. The 39gr Sierra is a nice bullet (great BC), you should have good luck with it. If the 39's and benchmark turns out not be a good combo in your rifle, I'd stick with the 39's and try H4895, especially if you'll be shooting it in extreme weather conditions (I live in Canada), if not try Reloader 10X, it's a super fast powder showing great velocities.
My vote goes to scraping the stock trigger also.

Weatherby has the WORST factory triggers. Buy a Timney and enjoy shooting.

i have a weatherby vangard in .223. best thing i ever done to any rifle was to install a timney trigger in it. i also have a howa 1500 in .204. before i ever shot the thing, i installed a timney in it also. my vangard is a very nice rifle and it shoots way better than me. get the timney, IMHO

I have three vanguards, and i put Timney triggers on all of them. the difference is amazing, On my Howa 1500 i adjusted the factory trigger to my likeing. Good luck with yours.

I have a timmeny and Rifle basixs triggers in my rifles . personally i like the rifle basix better. The timmenys dont adjust any lower than 1 1/2 lbs. 40 grain v-max h4895 27.5 grains

Another vote for Timney. My favorite walkabout varmint rifle is a Sako Vixen (L461) in .223 Rem that had a horrible factory trigger until I installed a Timney, and now she's even more dear to me.

Here she is in an alfalfa patch busy sniping ground squirrels on a nice spring day.



Up on a distant hillside on this ranch, there is a badger den. I always glass the area in hopes of seeing one of the critters, and this particular evening roaming about with the Vixen , I saw a head bobbing up and down just above the crest of the hill where the den was located. Knowing I could not get close for a decent shot, I laid down in the alfalfa using my bipod, ranged the den at 422 yards, dialed the elevation turret for the range, cranked the Lupy 4-12X up to 12X and waited. After what seemed like an hour, probably more like 15 minutes of head bobbing, this little guy poked his head up for a look around barely over the crest of the hill. The Timney broke clean, I heard the "thwop", and hiked up the hill to find a juvinile badger with a severe headache from a Nosler 40gr BT.



Some of my rifles wear Jewell's, Canjar's and others, but for the money, you can't beat Timney for a great trigger at a decent price.

I have a Timney in an AR and in my Remington 788, both shrunk my groups considerably. Rifle Basix are also a good trigger, but I usually support Timney, for my own reasons.
