Hey all,
Goin to Northern PA this weekend to see if any wood chucks are poppin,
I have a really good load for my .243 and it's shootin 4" high at 100 yards.
Hopefully it close to zero at 300 yards. Man, .... Savage makes a tack driver of a Rifle,
no pillar bedding, but I heard the barrel is better than average.

It shooting a 1/2" group at 100. The accu- trigger is set at minimum setting.
Any thoughts at how to tighten up the group?

I used Lapua brass, CCI 200 primers, and Hornady 87 grain v-max bullets along with
37.5 grains of IMR 4064. The flash hole for the brass is uniformed, necked sized, with
Lee collet die, the primer pocket is uniformed, which I do that for good anvil contact,
Fire formed brass, and seat bullet on the lands.

What dies are you using?

To get THE most out of what you have.....

1 - neck turn the brass so the wall thickness is exact. Buy a bushing 0.002 and 0.001 smaller than your loaded neck diameter.

2 - place EACH piece of brass in the chamber in the exact same position (mark the brass with a sharpie or similar). Fire the brass. Size the brass with a bushing neck sizing die while orientating your fired brass with the previous mark and a mark on your press.

Measure the runout of the neck. Good? Bad? Or? If in the 0.0001 to 0.0002 range, that is about as good as it will get.

Last step - call a psychologist, psychiatrist, and a good hair dresser. The first two professionals are self explanatory. The last professional, you will need this service the worst....as your hair will be turning WHITE and falling OUT!!!

Find the bullet/powder that gives a 2" group at 300 yards and call it good.

What dies are you using?
LEE collet

I also use forester neck turner.

Runout is about a thou and a half for bullet and case neck.
My not fired lapua brass isn't neck turned.
I normally use fired brass.

Why such a heavy bullet? I have dropped down to a 65gr Vmax with W760. For years I used 70gr bullets and IMR powders which where good but the W760 with a 65gr Vmax shoot smooth. Good groups with low recoil. I Use a 87gr bullet for Deer hunting. The 243 is a great round. Have fun Post us some pictures when you get back.

Why such a heavy bullet? Because a lighter bullet doesn't
stabilize, in a 1:9 barrel, to 3/8's of an inch at 100.



87gr bullet for Deer hunting? There's a guy who lost a deer
because he uses a 87 grain bullet. He approached the deer
thought it was dead, turned around to fill out his tag, turned back around to attach the tag and the deer was history.
It vanished, into thin air.
