Rem 700 LV SF in 204
Rem 700 LV SF in 204
Anybody have any experience with these? Looks like a nice light and relatively inexpensive gun. Curious how long the chambers run. the idea being that I could share load specs with my Sako if necessary.

Re: Rem 700 LV SF in 204
The only one I've fooled with, was in .17 Rem. belonging to a friend. It shot surprisingly well, for such a light rifle (not as well as my HMR, though!)
Remington has, of late, made the throats really long in ALL their rifles, and I'd expect no different for the LVSF.

Re: Rem 700 LV SF in 204
I have had one chambered in .223 for a couple of years now. It's a dandy truck gun and quite accurate to boot. The first thing I did when I got it home was to remove the stockand install a Jewell trigger, when I did I notice that the barrel channel had a bump near the forend tip and thus the barrel has some upwards pressure on it. I decided to shoot the gun "as is" and found with the right handloads and even some HSM and UltraMax ammo this rifle can produce consistant 1/2" groups. 2 years later and the LVSF is still shooting without the barrel free floated, a classic example of "if it's not broke dont fix it". I dont think Remington is producing these any more but am sure there are a few NIB's to be found.

Re: Rem 700 LV SF in 204
I bought one in too-oh four and have been struggling to make it cycle and shoot for some time.
After releiving the channel, bedding it, lapping the lugs and truing the action, I am getting 1/2inch groups. It was a lot of work and in hindsight I wouldn't do it again.
Oh. Even after shortening the chamber I still cannot touch the lands. What about a tikka ?

Re: Rem 700 LV SF in 204
Does Tikka do a 204? I haven't seen one yet.
Sako has a new lower priced unit coming also, but Beretta is so darn poor about making the line available...
http://www.sakoa7.net Nothing smaller than 22-250 though.
On edit: I see the Tikka Varmint in 204, but not the Lite stainless. Been hoping for a real lightweight for this one.

Re: Rem 700 LV SF in 204
TD-Max,I`ve owned a LVSF for 2 years now and love it to bits.I use it as a foxing rifle and occasionally for some long range crows and bunnies. The only thing i`ve done to it is to fit a timney trigger. It shoots factory 40grain V-max at about.7 to.8,and 32grain handloads to about .5,though i think there is more to come yet!
The other thing i like about it is how easy it cleans up after use.
Overall i think its a great rifle to do a lot of walking with, but this is just my experience, and perhaps i`m one of the lucky ones.

I only have to be lucky once,
the fox has to be lucky every time!

Re: Rem 700 LV SF in 204
My 204 LVSF was a lemmon. I was getting 3-4 inch groups with all brands of factory ammo. I should mention I had installed a custom 1LB trigger too. Remmy took it back lapped the barrel and recrowned. It does shoot better but nothing to brag about.
I just spoke with Clay Spencer who agreed to blueprint and install custom tube. I just hope it shoots as well as the Sako Varmint I sold to fund the LVSF
My LVSF experience.

great gun for hinking the hills ,its nice and lite and shoots well and the coyotes hate it.
Re: Rem 700 LV SF in 204
Well I'm going to give it a try. A semi-local gun shop found one for me. After rebate I'll have less than $700 in it. Now to decide what glass to put on it. Thinking I'll hand down the Leupold from my Sako and try a Zeiss on the Sako...

Need an opinion on scope finish. I've been thinking silver/stainless to match the action, but maybe matte to match the stock?
Also, who makes the best rings/bases for this lightweight?

TD...
Here's what it would look like in a silver'ish trim.
Nikon Titanium 5.5-16.5x44
I also have stainless (brighter) and black I could mount on it if you wanted to see it like that as well.
