My brother kicked up a red yesterday on a deer drive. He mentioned something about a 50cal roundball not being fur friendly. Whatever that meant. :lmao: :lmao:

Hawkeye: Check out my buddy's Marlin M980DL (exactly like my old rifle), walnut/blue. It appears he really gets some use out of his on cats. Go to page 2 on that post.

Marlin has been making 22WMR's for a very long time. It appears they know what they're doing.

As we're talkin' 22WMR here, here's a shot of my favorite nephew with my Ruger 77/22 Mag on a ground squirrel walkabout a couple of years ago. The other rifle is my Browning Low Wall in 22 K-Hornet. Both rifles wore Leupold 3-9X Compacts w/turrets. We were using CCI Maxi-Mag +V in the Ruger. That was a good morning outing.

Rick I see your buddy uses Winchester ammo. I want to pick up a bunch of ammo this weekend, but want to keep the splat facter to a minimal. Any recommendations??... Looks like mr fox will be snowed in for a few days with the 12+ inches we got.And it's still snowing. My 50lb puppy broke a nice trail if he cares to venture out. He spent the whole day outside playing.

Cool pictures Mike!! Especially the 2nd one. Whats the makeup of your pup??

You really only got 8" of snow. The other 4" is what we got but the never ending 40mph winds blew it all up to you folks!!

The CCI 40gr Maxi Mags will probably shoot very good for you. Most all WMR's like em. Good Luck with it!!

Mike: For Mr. Fox or Vixen, to keep the splat factor to a minimum, you may want to just use 22WMR solids. Any good hit will anchor something as small as a fox without destroying the hide.

I've used both CCI Maxi-Mag and Winchester solids...both shoot well out of all my 22 mags. I've got most brands stocked in the ammo bunker, but those two are my 'go-to' brands. Like Glen says, the CCI's shoot well in most 22WMR's. The Federal Premium's have Sierra BK's loaded, very good stuff, but may be too much for saving a nice hide.

Buddy looks like he's having a good romp in his first winter snow. You guys are all over the news with this real "dumper" of a storm. Like bullfrog mentioned in his coyote post, we're supposed to get two more Pacific storms with snow in the next couple of days....we'll see. This area is very hard to predict accurately because we're in the shadow of the Cascade Mountains, and the snow usually sticks up there. Even here at 3,700' elevation, we don't get as much snow as you guys usually do. Fresh tracks in a new snow.....oh yeah!

Glen.. He's 100% Black Lab at 5.5 months old. He's a good dog. He likes chasing the birds. He also feeds like one. That's where the fence comes in  . That's a Cardinal coming in hot with a Dove and some Junco's

Diane thought he was a mixed breed from the 2nd picture. I figured he just needed to grow into the extra skin on the back of his neck. This new picture really sets him off nicely. He's a good lookin pup for sure!!

I think my fox is a forum member. He's been scarce since I got my fox rifle  .Hmmm... Silverfox... Grayfox... Can't seem to find a Redfox on the member list . Two nights ago I took a peek out back at 3:00am. There he was about 700 yards back crossing the open field :? :wall: . No tracks at all in the snow behind the fence though  .

Glen, as this thread is alreadly off topic (dogs), in the spirit of enlightenment, I thought I'd show you what REAL Basset Hounds looked like. Rose and Lucy (known here as "The Girls"), didn't want you to get them mixed up with a Lab, so here you go....

Image

Noses second only to the Bloodhound, these girls can find ANY critter, ANY where, ANY time! I've had bird dogs all my life, but the nose on a hound has to be experienced to be fully believed. Absolutely amazing scenting ability!

Oh, by the way, they wanted me to tell you that they're not spoiled either. (Yeah, right!)

Those Bassetts are real nice dogs Rick & it looks like you have a nice pair of (UN)spoiled ones right there!!

I've always wanted a bloodhound. By golly the authorities wouldn't have to look very long for a missing child with one of those around here!! I watched a show on TV where that bloodhound could follow the little girls scent along the highway almost a week later!! They found the poor little girls body due to the efforts of that hound too. But it was good they found her. Their only fault is that once on a trail they can literally run themselves to death as I understand them.

Glen, Yep, the girls can never be off their leashes when off our property, as once they get on the scent of a bunny, coon, cat or whatever, they're history, as their brain is dominated by their noses. Hounds can get in alot of trouble following their noses if off their leashes. :?

Now if was just legal to take them with me elk hunting......hummm...... :chin:

I went to a indoor range to test some ammo for the WMR. It wasn't very rifle/bench friendly :eew: I sat in a steel folding chair with a 12 inch table top to rest my BR bipod on. No rear rest :? Oh yeah, No prone either :wall: . I did the best I could at 50 yards. Looks like the Remington 33gr V max and 34gr Winchester Supremes shoot well. All were shot without any adjustments to the scope. A new guy at work says he likes the 33gr Vmax Rem's for Fox. All with minimal pelt damage :D
