stock painting

Hello every one! My first post. . . .

Does anyone have some advice on painting a black synthetic stock? I did have it tapped with camo cloth tape and the tape is comming off. I'm looking for something very low price but durable for sniper shooting coyotes, ground hogs, and the occasional pop can (instant gratification).

Biggest item...remove wax/grease from the stock first. There is a wax & degreaser available at your local hardware store.

I would recommend krylon...for cheap, easy, and fast.

...and clear it (dull, flat, or plain clear).

On a different note: Does anyone know what the factory trigger pull poundage is for the Savage model 12 FV? I went to adjust it the the lightest pull and found that it came from factory preset on the lightest weight.

Here's my dad's that he did him self. It is just green, tan, and black Krylon.

Mine is tan Krylon and some black webbing.

sniper model 12--Welcome to the Forum!! They aren't too hard to do. Clean the stock good & use a good primer layed down in thin coats 1st. That'll get the base you need. HTH

On the standard varmint model accu-trigger they claim 1 1/2 to 5 pounds. On the target models with red accu-trigger 6oz to 3 pounds. Rimfire rifles are 2 1/2 to 6 pounds. All are plus or minus 1/2 pound. I don't know if the sporter rifles are different than the varmint rifles. I've had good luck with mine, getting down to 1 1/2 nice and crisp. I've heard some rumors of cutting coils and removing the blades to get real light. I'd be real cautious about these mods.

I plan on beginning the project soon. The weather is good and will allow paint to dry nicely. I'll keep ya'll posted as things progress.

Are there any products on the market that will give the stock a "rubberized" grip or texture? I've used some products in the bio lab a college, but those adhesives only bonded to glassware.

I love the Accu Trigger!! Very user friendly. Savage with another good idea !

Don't be scared. Wipe the rifle with denatured alcohol and use plastic wrap to cover the lenses of the scope I have painted even the bolts no problem, if it is it cleans off easy enough with gun scrub. What I like about it is if you scratch it or want to change just add more paint in the style you like the paint protects the rifle from weather. I went down to the hard ware store and bought krylon camoflag paint. works fine. Go for it.

Verminator - I really like the look of your Dad's stock. Did he use a stencil to get that effect? I want to redo my shotgun with a pattern like that. Also, do you need to coat the Krylon with some clear, flat for durability? I also like the tan with black webbing. Thanks.

Is there anything special I need to do to the barrel? I guess I'll paint it with the stock. primer, paint, clear coat.

This paint job is awesome, how did you get these results? I wanted to do my stock on my SPS like this. I have the same base color but I was unsure how to do the webbing.

I have a Savage Model 12 SLP with a SS barrel and SS scope. Thinking about painting but will it stick to the SS barrell? The wood on my rifle is laminated. I hunt year 'round, so camo works in the summer; but what needing white in the winter?

Does anyone make (for example) a sock with velcro fastners that is interchangeable for the seasons?

I decided to touch up my guns for the up coming season the nice thing is you can return to the garage and change the look in about 2 minutes its that simple.The picture with the deer is the before look if I decide that the look is to dark I will just add a little lighter paint in a few spots to change things its really not a big deal I change or add paint several times a year.
