34 gr Dogtown + Benchmark

Post by acloco »

Used 26.3 grains of Benchmark, 34 Dogtown, CCI450 primer, 2x fired/neck sized RP cases.

I fired two barrel warming shots (should have shot three!!)...and five for group. 4 are under an inch at 100 yards.

FYI - I weighed 50+ of the dogtowns on an Acculab VIC123 scale, they were all dead on, 34.00 grains.

Will load some with H4895 and see how they do.

What primer brands has everybody had success with Benchmark???

My favorite primer is the CCI BR-4. I don't know if it will get the Dogtown bullets to shoot though. Good Luck.

The BR4's are ok, but they do not seem to light some of the powders as well as the CCI450 or the Federal 205 M's....

Acloco I think the CCI BR4's will work great for your H4895 testing ,been getting some more sub 0's with the combo at 100.How thick are you leaving your case necks after shaving mine are running at .0115.

Was your case neck and bullet run-out worse with the pre fireformed R-P brass and did it get better? Mine was a whopping .012  couldn't belive it was so horid.Ohyah got me a crono :D

I think I have a few BR4's left...maybe 15 or so. At the local gunshop, BR4's are $26/1000....UGH!

I started using the 450's when I got my first 204.The 40 Vmax's shot very well with them. After about 400 rounds down the pipe I couldn't find them locally. So I switched to the Rem 7 1/2. I instantly noticed tighter more consistent groups at 200 yards. I still have a half box of 450's on my shelf. The Rem 7 1/2 worked great for me in my 27.7 H4895 39BK and 28.2 H4895 35 Breger loads. As far as the BR4's go I only loaded them with 10X and Benchmark. $26 FOR 1000 BR4's   .. $45 FOR 1000 in New York.

Hawkeye Joe

Just wait until you have to replace those 100 pieces of Norma brass.
