Savage Max 1 review so far,

Post by bang bang »

Just wanted to share that if anybody is looking into the Savage Max 1 in 204, its a winner. I'v tried 7 different factory ammo so far, (havent started reloading for it yet) all at 100yds, and all but 2 brands i shot sub .5MOA. 3 shot groups, not five. That will come later. It will shoot 40gr no problem. Infact my best group so far was with HSM 39gr. calhoon bullets, with 40gr. berger's next. .321" 3shot group is my best. Only had it out twice now. I'm not bragging by any means, just wanted to show the potential of the gun to others. ACCU trigger and stock are nice, big bolt knob is REAL nice, and the fluted bbl it nice to look at also. Gun has LEUPOLD wpr rings, and a VXII 6-18X40 target scope. Just got my reloading dies in so will be working up some loads with 35gr. berger's. Thats my bullet of choice for now. Seems to be the best from what i read on coyotes. Anyways thats that, going to try the hornady 45gr. ammo next week, maybe it will stablize, maybe it won't??? Thanks

Same gun, switched to 39gr. bullets last weekend..(5 shots/100yds). It shoots well with 32's,just leaves a lot of copper at peel-out time..

Awsome groups! I will buy some 39gr. bullets and try those loads. For some reason the factory Federal 39gr. Blitzking's don't do that well in mine though .75"ish groups. Took it to the range last night, the best group i got was with the new Hornady 45gr. SP. Finally got a .221 group (again 3 shots) at 100yds. But was happy to see them fly so well. Thanks for the pics. Def. worth a shot to try in mine!!!
