whats the black stuff on winchester silvertips?

The "black stuff" is a propriatory black oxide coating, proported to reduce fouling. The benefits are questionable in most circles....mostly a marketing gimick to be different. Consider this: If it was some kind of panacea in regard to fouling or accuracy, wouldn't all/most bullet makers utilize the same or similar method of coating? :chin:

Rio explained it well. Nosler and Winchester call the coating "Lubaloy". Bill K
