.243 Powders?
I have not loaded for the .243 in a long time, most of my time has been spent with the 6mm. I was thinking about Varget for 85gr HPBT and something like H414, W760, H4350 or RL17 for 95gr BT. Any recomendations and personal experiences?

Re: .243 Powders?
Andrew: Varget and H414 along with IMR 4350 are my top choices for both my 243 and 243 Ackley with bullet from 55 to 100 grains.
Many a rock chuck has succumed to the Nosler 70gr BT over Varget in my 243AI zipping along right at 3,800 fps....does a good job indeed.

Re: .243 Powders?
Rick, thanks for the info. I am going to be loading for my daughter (10 now) so she can take a blacktail under the mentor program. I have had great luck with both of those bullets out of the 6mm but a buddy picked her up a Winchester M70 youth to use....I am jealous.

Re: .243 Powders?
I have a 6mm Remington and while not a 243, it's darn close. I've had good results with H4831SC, Hybrid 100-V and for lighter bullets (and a susurprise to me) RE-15. Haven't tried RL-17, 19 or 22. I hear IMR-4064 is good too. Also, H4350 worked pretty good too.

My 243 likes IMR4831 for 75 grain bullets and both IMR and H4831 with 100 grainers.

Re: .243 Powders?
My 243 Win (Sav.12) makes a mess of p-dogs with a 58 gr. Vmax and 43gr. (I think) of Varget. Chrony was over 3900fps if I remember correctly. Might be on the hot side, primers are starting to flatten. I shoot IMR4350 in a sporter with 80 gr. SPs, coyote rig which doesn't see much action sadly.
Take a kid to the range, both of you will be glad you did. remy3424

Re: .243 Powders?
I've had great luck with H414 with 75g Hornady HP out of a Ruger 26" barrel. I was using 26.2grains with the bullet seated to touch the lands. Fairly stout load and I am getting 3542 FPS.
It's hard to detect good luck, It looks so much like something you've worked hard for and earned.

Did you mean 46.2 gr instead of 26.2 ?ryutzy wrote:I've had great luck with H414 with 75g Hornady HP out of a Ruger 26" barrel. I was using 26.2grains with the bullet seated to touch the lands. Fairly stout load and I am getting 3542 FPS.

Re: .243 Powders?
yes thankyou for catching that. 46.2 grains is what I use.
