Brass choice - does it make any difference?

Post by si-snipe »

Hey guys

I am currently getting good results using Hornardy brass at the moment but due to them costing twice that of Winchester and Remington I am going to test the idenical load in some other cases to see if there are any variations. In fact the Hornardy brass is almost the same price as buying complete rounds!!
Has anyone done such testing (I am sure they will have :D ) and what results did you discover?

Many thanks,
Si

Assuming you find a good load for a particular rifle, the brand of brass really makes no difference, also assuming that the brass is of the same overall condition and internal volume, which it will be. All domestic brass is about the same quality. The only way you can really "improve" brass quality, is by going to the more spendy imported stuff from Lapua and Norma.

Lapua at this time does not make 204 brass, but Norma does. Nosler brass is made by Norma, so is also of equal quality, even though it appears domestic by name...it's not, but very good stuff.

Thanks mate.
Think I may just get some Win or Rem next time as they are less than half the price of Hornardy!!

Si-Snipe, I've been using all three of the 'common' brands for several years and other than my Hornady brass seems to get loser primer pockets quicker, I haven't been able to tell any difference in accuracy..
