I've recently returned from our second annual coyote trip to western North Dakota. Last year the .204 won my heart when I took my friend's Rem 700 VLSS. This year saw my first kill with my upgraded 700 SPS. Overall the trip was pretty slow. High winds kept the dogs from hearing our calls... We were still able to shoot a few. One day we stumbled apon fresh Mt. Lion tracks. Even though non-residents can't shoot Mt. Lions, we tried calling in the area just to see if we could see a big cat or to get a coyote to come in, but we saw neither. The beautiful backdrop made the trip worth while, and I'm hoping to draw an archery tag to return this fall to hunt mule deer.
This coyote didn't come in until after our first calling set of the morning. We had just regrouped and started talking about our next spot when she crested the next hill. My friend called and I moved into possition to shoot. I barked to get her to stop just before she got downwind of us. The approximately 225 yard shot with a 35 grain Berger dropped her in her tracks. No exit.

Re: ND dog
That almost looks like an area just east of Beach, ND where I got family. Nice coyote there, and great pics.

Re: ND dog
Cant be N. Dakota. We dont have any coyotes, PD's or any other varmints. Just alot of snow and cold, so no need to come and look for em, you can leave em for us......
On the other hand, great shooting, hunting and an awesome hero pix.

Good job! Great looking country. It does look cold and wind blown.

Re: ND dog
Thanks guys, it was a fun hunt.
songdog: Not much done to the SPS. I put a Bell and Carlson Medalist stock on it and brought the trigger down to a crisp 2.5 lbs.
