What portable spotlight system works best for you?

Post by AussieDave »

Hi Folks

Im experiementing with various handheld/portable spotlights and high intensity led torches at present but am yet to come up with a combination that provides a strong pencil beam (150 - 200m) that also (importantly) has a significant battery life. Currently I can achieve the intensity for spotlighting but can only achieve around 25min duration. As I hunt in fairly rough and hilly terrain for rabbits and foxes I cant hook up the spotlight to the 4wd and the 25 min duration hardly makes it worth it.
Does anyone have a great combination (intensity and duration) that they would like to share?

Cheers

Light tecnology has really improved in the last couple of years I have been using the new LED lights. Pilican makes one with a real deap reflective cone that is intense. One hand held I use is a princeton tec dive light that works off four C cell batteries last for 4.5 hours. As for the light on your gun. I only keep it on for a few minutes at a time.

I don't know about rabbits but fox eyes light up like tale lights on a car with a red lenses light shined in there derrection. I don't use white light and you don't have to see the creature as much as you need to catch the glow of there eyes. When I paint an area with light any more it can hardly be seen by me but it will light up any preditor in the area.ImageIf you can see the lense on my head lamp is amber I have since gone to red with a LED head lamp.

Another vote for Pelican brand lights, like their cases the lights are tough, bright and built like a brick outhouse. Gary
