So I can aim for his nose and the group will count?

The group will count anywhere on the target. That is IF you can see the nose at 100 yards. Oh blessed mother of magnification!!

Well, I believe I am ready for the target to show. Have my fifteen rounds of 204 R all sorted, weighed and matched the cases and all as best as I can, and will see if my load of powder is still on the POA. If so, then I will be out to the range one morning, bright and early to shoot for score and return the official target to Skipper. As they say "Let's Get It Done". And then wait for Skipper to make the final scoring official. :D

Now I will set back, play with some other stuff and shooting and wait for the target, from Skipper, to arrive, after he calls for our addresses.

What are the normal dates? Do I need to get my address to someone? Hoping I can shoot off my new bench this summer...

I'll announce whenever it's time to register for the competition. Usually late spring.

As Skipper mentioned, he will announce when, but in the mean time, make yourself a small target like the size of a fly, put it on paper and start practicing hitting and grouping on it at 100 Yrds. :D :D

Just thinking that it might be appropriate to hang a plain white piece of paper and see if you can group on your first shot hole. YMMV

Skipper, I like your proposed target! It's much more realistic for those of us that are "flight instructors" for the little varmints we seek. The ghosted image will make the contest far more interesting. Thanks for your continued effort on this project!

Wes

I fully agree WesF. I shoot paper targets, when I must i.e. sighting in, ladder testing and weather conditions, but 90 % of my target work is for just your comment " flight instructing or Acrobatic's" . So this new target is really going to be a hit. Pun intended.

Wonder how many will sign on, this year. I sure hope a good number will do so, and have some fun. :D

There are 4 main type of shots on gophers. Pop ups, red mist, chunkers, and helocopters.

Yup, a good high-rising helicopter, twisting and flipping is quite the sight. But you forgot one other fun squirrel or PD type.....the "Head". Sometimes it's never found, being popped right off the host and landing 30' away.

This guy met a 32gr BT at a tad over 4,000 fps out of my Sako M75 Varmint at about 260 yards.

To me, that falls under the Chunker catagory. Sometimes its other parts, or chunks that get blown apart....nice shooting though. I am hoping my .204 will give me more Red Mist.
