I was a little disappointed with your remark giterdone. You mean to tell me that you have NEVER taken a shot at game even so much as 1 yard beyond what you to believe one of your guns is capable of? Would find that incrdedibley hard to believe if you have not. You would probably be HORRIFIED to hear of the shots I make with my 22-250 and 40 grain nosler ballistic tips....Unlike a lot of hunters, I actually do a lot of shooting at targets (paper and otherwise) to see what my gun and load ARE capable of. If you can nock off a 2L pop bottle at 600 yards, I would say that is a good hunting load, wouldn't you?

Trajectory problem at long range listed by giterdone is exactly why the 20-250or maybe
20-220 appeals to me. Long range varmint shooters have 4 needs: Velocity, high BC bullets,
velocity, and more velocity! There is a huge difference between shooting a paper target at a known distance and shooting 600-800 yard prairie dogs.

P.S. Anybody who tries 600 plus pd's in 25 mile an hour wind would probably pee on an electric fence.

Regarding velocity, my first post (11/12/09 8:45a.m.) I used 3800fps as a velocity example.
Mr. Brown's shooting (so he states) was 3400fps. Four hunderd feet per second less than I gave the theoretical load credit for. Sorry about the math, but long range shooting require's it.
Hotshot....You would need quite a long barrel to burn all that (slow burning rate) powder that would be required using a 250 or 220 case holding a .204 caliber bullet, it also would have a very short life.

Short barrel life, that is the story of my life. I would start with a 27 or 28 inch barrel and hope for 1200-1500 shots. Cut back and re-chamber for another 800-1000. I've gone through this before. If you only get 1000 total, that might be 5-10 years worth of fun that you wouldn't get otherwise. This is not a cartridge that would be used for the close work. Just like always the 100-300 is done by the 17 Fireball and 223, The 300-500 is 204 and 220 Swift territory, and I have done very well to 600 with 39 BK's at 3900fps out of a particularly accurate Savage. So the 20-220 only gets used for 600 plus showing off on the rare occasion. PERFECT plan! Someday I'll let you know how it works out.

That's kind of what I expected to hear of this .20-250 hotrod......it WILL be hard on barrels!! I suppose that is the price you pay for being king of the hill. It has my interest for sure but I prefer my barrels to go a little longer than that. Most of my shots come at 500 yards and less anyway, at which range I feel the stock 204 ruger is perfectly suited.
