Welcome to the forum
No drumming required. Many top BR shooters use a product called GM TEC for carbon. Stands for "Top Engine Cleaner".
The "old" formula anyway. GM has re engineered that product and the jurys still out on the new stuffs performance.
Your WWII veteran buddy was just way ahead of his time.
