Fiocchi 40 grain vmax 204 ammo question.

hey guys im new here, G'day from down under.

Im a very new 204 owner (T/C venture 22 inch sporter 1-10" twist)

I have found that this rifle is very accurate with Fiocchi 40 grain ammo, but there is a little problem, sometimes the brass has slightly raised primers. My only concern is the ammo is too hot and or dangerous.

Anyone else had a similar experience or chronied the ammo?

Do you mean that the primers are not seated properly? It's been quite a while since I shot factory ammo so I'm not familiar with Fiocchi.

After firing some of the primers have backed out a little, im told it was cases that have the shoulder set back too much but im just double checking to be safe.

If you're talking about factory ammo then I would use a head space gauge. Go, No Go gauges can tell you a lot. They make them for both checking your chamber and also for checking your loaded rounds.

I have heard other people talking about this problem, no one has had any major issues

One of the issues is overworking the brass. If you don't plan to reload the brass then it's not a problem. The second issue is safety. How long before that problem turns into gas escaping around the primer pockets, etc. Could end up in your face.

I have shot about 50 and so far super accurate and no leaked gas around the primers, they arent particularly hot for 204, 40 grain vmax at 3700 as stated on the box.

i bought an used t/c venture in .204. the primers were backing out a bit. my gunsmith said it could be within factory specs. (about .014) inches. i asked if he has heard of the 20 practical and he said he had built them. at riverman gunworks in coeur d'alene idaho i had it re-chambered to the .20 practical and use .223 brass that is necked down with a redding reducing bushing die bought from mid south shooters. now i have tons of brass and the gun shoots extremely well. with slightly reduced .204 load data i have never had a problem and some of the loads shoot as fast as the .204 ruger.

with fiocchi ammo in .223 and .204 i had a fellow shooter give me 5 rounds to try out' i put the first 3 rounds into one little hole and returned the last two rounds to him and said i already know where they would go. very very good accuracy!!!

I swapped a 223 to 204 on a Savage rifle for a buddy. It has shot extremely well for a stock rig and barrel with the Fiocchi 40 and 32 ammo. Never saw any issues with primers or ammo.
We split a case of each and both of us wish we had bought more.
I saw some guys talking up the 223 ammo is why I tried the 204.
I have not tried to reload any of the brass but some say the flash hole is ridiculously off center.

Who cares if the flash hole is off center when it still shoots soo well. Using.204 fiocchi brass I put 4 rounds in a group that measured less than 1/10th inch.

I noted that for those that reload. So yes some folks may care if the flash hole is off center. And since I have posted, I have seen several people that have bent decap stems on their dies.

savage model 12, 100 yards. from what i have read sometimes with the 39 grain sierra they have been known to disintegrate at that velocity so maybe that is why i thought it was 4 shots but for certain 3 shots went into that hole. it could very well have been 4 shots into that without leaving a trace of the 4th round. just trying to be honest here.
