Post by bigdaddyWSM »

After breaking in my Savage 110 with 26" barrel & bell and Carlson stock I tested numerous powders & bullets settling on 2 bullets, 35 grain Bergers & 39 SBK. First load is slower charge of 8208 xbr ( 25.7) for a mv of 3540 and SD of 12.5 ES of 23 group size 0.21" at 100. Depth 1.947 with comp.
Next is 27.7 gr of H4895 for mv of 3868 and SD of 15 and ES of 31 group size also 0.21 at 100. Depth 2.000 with comp.

When I started testing I used roughly the book seating depth, found out my rifle likes the SBK seated a little deeper into case.

Looks like you're off to a very good start!

Your tests also show why it's always important to experiment with seating depth. I have one rifle that shoots best with bullets being .080" off the lands, and another in the same caliber that likes being .005" off. You just never know what the rifle will like, you just gotta dink about till you find the "sweet spot". :D

That's some good shooting!
