WTB leupold 8.5-25x40mm Side Focus

Post by Hoot »

WTB a Leupold 8.5-25 x 40mm Side Focus. I do not care what reticle it has in it but it must be a side focus and it must be a 40mm objective.

Happy Shooting!

Hoot: No problem posting your WTB here, but I'd suggest listing your request over on both saubier.com and Accurate Shooter.com. They both get much more traffic than this forum, and both are "accuracy oriented" with like-minded riflemen. More exposure is better, right?

Just a suggestion to get you into that scope quicker for rat season. :D

Rick, Sorry for the delay in responding. Thanks for the suggestions. I actually checked out the saubier.com last night; applied for an account and will be expanding the search to Accurant Shooter.com tomorrow. I love these scopes, have six of them mounted on various varmint rigs and they have been very good to me. I realize I'm in a rut but I dont plan to dig out anytime soon. Hmmm...never saw a SF Leupold in 8.5-25X with a 40mm objective. Did see a VX3i for sale in that magnification range with a 50mm over on longrangehunting.com; had a duplex reticle. Love my 6.5-20 VX3 w/VH reticle but would like that extra 5X sometimes.
I couldn’t begin to afford my favorite car now: a 1965 Chevelle Z16, so I’ll just drink my favorite wine — Malbec — and make believe I own one. :hic:

Rowdy, you are correct, Leupold never offered the 8.5-25X in the 40mm objective, 50mm being the 'standard' objective diameter for that magnification range.

The Leupold VX3's in 6.5-20X were the only Leupold's I'm aware of that had that range of magnification with the 40mm objective. Finding a 8.5-25X with a 40mm bell would be like finding chicken lips.

I did Google enough to find an old Vari-X II for sale once, with a (stated) 40mm, but that was front AO. And to my eyes, in the pics the bell looked too large for it to be that size....

So I guess I will just forget that I actually own two of the 8.5-25 x 40mm scopes that you are telling me are a mystical unicorn. Ok. I guess I've been seeing things for the last 15 years that I've owned them. Who'da thunk it???

Why don't you just post a picture? That would settle this.

If I had been aware that the Leupold 8.5-25X was ever offered with a 40mm objective, I would have purchased three of them straightaway. My buddy at the factory also told me they were only issued in 50mm objective....go figure.

If you have two of them, then by all means post some pics; I'd like to see them for myself to dispel the unicorn thing.

Okay, I just got off the phone with my buddy at Leupold. Here's the real scoop on this issue:

Leupold DID offer a 8.5-25X scope with a 40mm objective, BUT it was not side focus, but AO (Adjustable Objective).

So if anyone thinks they have or can find a Leupold 8.5-25X with side focus and 40mm objective, then they probably also have a unicorn in their garage. That's it, plain and simple.

For the record: Leupold never made a 8.5-25X scope with side focus and 40mm objective....period. Anyone who thinks otherwise can argue with the factory. (And we'll see how that goes...... ;) )

Even if one could find a “unicorn”, don’t try to pass it off on my grandson. He had it figured out when just three years old: “a unicorn is just a pony with a ‘stinger’ on its head”.

So here I am admitting I was wrong about the side focus issue. After being challenged to "send pictures" I marched downstairs to the man cave with phone in hand to retrieve the two rifles these scopes are mounted on. Much to my surprise I moved eight rifles before getting to the two in question only to find that they were both NOT what I thought they were. While I do have two 8.5-25x 50mm with SF the scopes I had claimed clearly were the old front twisters. So I offer my apologies and concede. Old age can have some strange effects on a man.
