Hi there im about to build my new varmint gun i have a old Sako Vixen 222 Rem that i will rebuild to a 204 Ruger. So i have a few questions for you guys
I got an offer on a Lothar Walter Barrel 26" long and i can have 1/12" or 1/10" twist i'm going to shoot bullets around 35 Grain most likley bt bullets.
Do you think 1/12" is better than 1/10" twist and is 26" long enough to burn out the powder?
Sorry for my bad English but i'm from Sweden
/Daniel

I would say Daniel, that if you could get that barrel in 1/11 twist, it would be better yet, but if not then I would go with the 1/12. 26 inch will work just fine. Seems like most use a 24-25 inch barrel, but that extra inch will do no harm. Just my thoughts. Enjoy your 204 Ruger, then of course you will want a 20 VT.. Bill K

Thanks for The help i Will go for 1/12" twist and 26" long i got decent offer on that barrel.
I want alot of rifles but i do live in Sweden and we are only allowed to own 6 rifles for hunting. So i have a Mauser M03 because som far there are no regulations on barrel if u have rifle that is easy to change.

I got the lothar walther 1/10 twist barrel for my 204.
It shoots bullets from 32 grain up to 50 grain accurately.
I use 39 grain Sierra most of the time.
Mine was also 26 inches but I got it cut back to 23.5 inches as I found it too long when using a moderator.

I hope your Vixen is not a cherry, that would make me cry. IS the 222 a heavy barrel? I don't know about shipping but I'd love to have that Vixen barrel if it's in excellent condition.

Nahh its in pretty bad shape it was my grandfather rifle and he used it to hunt Wolf, then my Dad got it and he used to hunt western capercaillie. So now its mine and I dont really need it as it is now, and we have some really crazy gun laws here so we can only have 6 rifles for hunting. So its better to make something i "need" of it.
I would rather keep it like it is but our laws dont allowe med to dom so
Btw its not a heavybarrel but its Made in the mid 60 microtwist and Bofors barrel

I chose the 1/10 twist because I wanted to shoot the 39 and 40 grain bullets.savgebolt wrote:Danne,,,,,,you look back in some of the threads,,,, or ask some of the heavies in here , ,,, there gonna tell you 1 - 10 is better than 1 - 12,,,,,,, check it out before you decide
Some 1/12 twist barrels will shoot them and some won't so i didn't want to take that chance.
I'm glad I got the 1/10, accuracy and velocity is great with all bullets I tried.
