I had my first outing yesterday with my just built 204 Ruger AR. As far as magazines go, it was a disaster. I have three types of magazines and attempts to feed from any of them resulted in a destroyed case. I'm working on that. My rifle specs are as follows:
CMMG Lower with Timney drop in trigger and JP Rifles silent captured spring buffer
Crosshill Technologies Side Charged upper receiver
Shilen 24" 1 in 9 barrel
I will soon begin my handload testing but my first attempt at a group was 27.0 gr H335 behind a 32 gr V-MAX. The 5 shot group measured .384"
This is going to be fun!

What is the issue with the magazine feed and the destroyed case. Is it the magazine or could it be the cycle speed of the BCG ? Bill K

Re: First outing, 204 Ruger AR
I have been using a 5 round magazine (Bushmaster) with mine. No issues.
Re: First outing, 204 Ruger AR
magul magazines will not work. Standard steel mags work fine in my experience. The "destroyed case" might not be due to the mag tho. I was having a feed problem that was causing big dents on the cases. Switched to a Spikes T2 buffer (heavier) to slow down the bolt and the feed issue is fixed.
