Talk about hunting the hunters and their prey.

Perfect Predator rifle.

If your the kind that does a lot of walking to get to remote areas what do you think is the perfect predator and cartridge combination for Coyotes, bob cat, lynx, mountain lion and wolf?

If you are talking wolf and mountain lion, I would be looking at a 243 in something like a Tikka. It would be pretty tough on coyote and bobcat pelts if you want to save them. Nice lite weight rifle with good accuracy.

I'd have to agree with "sidewinder", a 243 cal would be my minimum. For caliber alone, maybe a fast twist 22-250 but I'd have to see if heavy hunting bullets in the 80gr weight range are available and in a walk-around rifle.

There is always the bit about "right bullet, right placement". I have killed everything on the list, most in multiples. With a mountain lion and wolf, bring enough gun; the 204 isn't that.
Lions aren't too hard to knock down, but they aren't something you want on top of you. Wolves are remarkably tough, very un-coyote like.
I'm a firm believer in the theory that if it bleeds, I can kill it.

When walking back in, will you be in big bear country ? If so , get ready to stop walking and start running with the little 243 Win rifle.. There are no_ perfect_ rifles for any thing. You my get by with a 243 Win rifle.

"Perfect" is a hard thing to define. Weight, ballistics, etc. Perhaps a 270 would be the way to go.

6.5 Creedmoor all the way. High BC, low recoil, true 1000 yd rifle, beats a .308. Use 140 gr bullets and get min. fur damage
