I traded off my M63, but acquired a Model 651 4" in 22WMR, and had Smith send me a 22LR cylinder for it, so now it's become a "switch cylinder" 22LR/22WMR in the same package. The 22 mag is brutal in a 4" handgun, ear protection required (learned the hard way elk hunting).

Those Smith Kit Guns are sure the neatest, and you don't see that many of them about any more. One of my favorite camping/fishing/hunting belt guns, and you're sure fortunate to have found that 'lil treasure from the 'old days'. Congrats.

Thanks, Rick. My next one WILL be a 651, hopefully in a square butt config....because I have another set of Hogue woods just like on the 63.

I keep my K22 smith close at all times in the rat fields, just in case of rodent invasion! And every once in a while, just for kicks, I like to streeech her legs, out to say maybe 50+ yards. After that, sights and older eyes come into play.

Rick, you already know you suck, right? I just couldn't part with $900 for one like yours on armslist here in CO recently. I don't really need or want the extry cylinder enough to pay that much.... a couple on GB now, but I 'spect they'll go over my budget, too...... Is yours a round butt?

Holy goat gonads! Nine hundred bucks now for a Smith M651? The world truely HAS gone bonkers. I've not kept track of prices for these little gems for some time, and that really floors me. That would be over my budget for one of these guns too. Nine bills....sheesh, no way.

Mine's a round butt, Don, the only one I could find at the time, and it's ideal for outback carry in a high-ride thumb-break rig made for me in 1975 by a friend here. It's carried my old M34, then my M63 like yours, and now the M651 22WMR or my M317.

I like my J frame too. I mostly shoot light loads in .38 through it. For me, I really don't like shooting +P loads through it. Tooooo punishing! But for me, I like the larger frames a lot better, and the K22 is my pride and joy. I changed the grips on my 19 in .357, and now It don't bother me so much when shooting the magnums thru it.

My son just picked up a Sig-Arms 1911 in 22lr. It actually locks the slide back on the last shot. May have to grab myself one since I've been scoping them out for a while now. Have you shot yours yet?

Jim, I just got it today, only run the 3 mags of fed bulk thru it so far. Operation was flawless.... It is a lot smaller than the SIG, but still has the last shot hold open. Sights are kinda tiny for my aging eyes and the trigger is 6 1/2 lbs. I'll give it a good workout tomorrow. Don
