Hey guys,
Thought I'd share this with you.
I shot this jackal on Friday night with a friend's Truvelo .338 Lapua sniper rifle.
Distance was +- 140m, quartering towards.
The 250gr Lapua Lock Base FMJ hit it on the shoulder, and exited at the rear.
I found the tail 6 metres from the body.
One thing's for sure, I do NOT want to be at the receiving-end of the rifle!
Cheers,
Eugene

Re: .338 Lapua vs. Jackal
Geno. Thanks for posting!! I knew there was a good use for the 338 Lapua. I had mine for a while and only shot rocks and steel at long ranges. Nothing here in Pa needs that kind of energy yet!!! But the white deer and black bear are getting bigger.
Thanks for sharing. Great caliber and a good looking rifle!!

Nice work on the jackal, not much left of him it appears. As they say you can never be over gunned. I bet that thing has a little recoil with the lack of weight is appears to have.

Well, we shot it next to a suppressed AR-15 .223, and we couldn't decide which one was louder. The suppressor was made by Nico at www.numenor.co.za , and they do an awesome job!remy3424 wrote:How quiet is that cannon??? Hearing protection needed?

Hey Gino! Now hows about you getting that .338-Lupa rifle used on the song dog and try that sucker out on one of those Eland. I shot one with my .338 Win mag and 225 grn bullet once and all it did was make a crater in the Elands shoulder the size of a double fist! Then it ran off tossing the leg below around like a rag doll as it ran.
I did connect 2 shots later hitting him in the spine and once back at the lodge, we never could find nothing but salt & pepper tidbits of that 1st bullet, which never penetrated that shoulder bone on the Eland. I had no idea they have such massive shouders bigger than many Brahma bulls in the USA. Thanks for those pictures too!

Re: .338 Lapua vs. Jackal
Hey Tonk,
We shot the .338 Lapua out to 1300yds this weekend. I was astonished at how flat shooting it is!
Eland are tough animals! Anything less than a premium monolithic- or bonded lead core would find it hard to break their big shoulderbones.
