Lovin the CZ

Post by Shamu25 »

Finally got a load worked up......39gr BK, 25.7gr BM, Winchester Brass, 7 1/2 Rem benchmark primers, 2.31 COL. Have been pondering a Cooper but how would you justify when the CZ (527 Varmint) does this at 100 and on a consistent basis.

Have about 400 rounds through it. Tried 10X and 4895 and benchmark. Also tried 35 gr Berger, 32gr and 40 gr Horn, 32 dogtowns, 32gr Sierra and of course 39 Bk's. Kept narrowing things down until it came down to COL. Then zero'd in at 2.31. Bingo! Been very meticulous about cleaning and bought a custom Lucas bore guide and Bore Tech rod and use Bore Tech Eliminator. Lots of homework here and it seems to pay off. Been learning tons. Haven't hand loaded in 40 years so bought a Lee Challenger with Lee dies. Only neck size. The Wilson case trimmer is tops. Started out with a Simmons Whitetail Classic 6.5-20x50 which was only $75 after the Simmons rebate last fall. Tried an upgrade at a considerably higher price and put the Simmons back on as I couldn't improve much on that. One more thing....free floated the barrel. Now to get the squeaker out and see if Mr Yote will show up.

I had a Simmons Master Series 6.5-20x on my Savage VLP. 'Very satisfied. I thought it focused and parallexed better than my Busnell Elite. 'And for shooting varmints and tiny dots in daylight it was excellent. Never had tracking or "zero" issues either. I really regret letting that scope go. Maybe they are hit/miss like some of the other lower-dollar makes, but I've was happy with mine. Sold it with the rifle. Rats.

I have a Leupold VX-III in 6-20, but it is likey the only one that I will ever be able to afford...
