My boys gave me a Savage 12FV in 204 for my birthday so I have been gleaning information from this forum and manufacturers sites etc for loading data.
I've already found a very accurate load with the 39 gr BK and H4895 that chronographs at 3745 fps. Unfortunately for me, I also found this on the Lapua/Viht reloading data site
40 gr Hornady V-Max, 25.8 gr of Vihtavouri N530, yielding 4055 fps. MAX Load
This looks too good to be true!!! I called Viht to check for a misprint and they confirm the data is correct. Anyone tried this load?

Re: vihtavouri N530
wow let us know how she shoot if you try that load!
It's hard to detect good luck, It looks so much like something you've worked hard for and earned.

Re: vihtavouri N530
I tried n530 but didnt get that velocity.
I think the velocity was around 3750 with their max load of 25.8 out of my 26in barrel.
I still think the data is wrong as the starting load of 23.1 gives a velocity of 3323fps and the max load of 25.8 gives a velocity of 4055fps which is an increase of 732fps for 2.7 grains of powder.
If you look at the data for n530 with the 32 blitzking the starting load of 24.1 gives a velocity of 3510fps and the max load of 27.0 gives a velocity of 4019 which is an increase of 509fps for 2.9 grains of powder.

I have never used N530, but that velocity of 4,055 fps sound mighty fast to me. My advice (and it is probably worth what you are paying for it) would be to begin your load work down near the starting load and work up very slowly!!! Let us know how it works out for you.

I may be the pessimist, but I doubt you will see 4000 plus with that load/bullet.. Will be interesting to see your Crony results. And accuracy. Bill K
Re: vihtavouri N530
It took some looking in central Iowa to find N530, but I found some.
I am not favorably impressed. I did a ladder with the 39 gr BlitzKing starting at 24 gr and working to 0.4 gr over the listed maximum for a 40 gr VMAX. No pressure signs yet, but velocity is still under 3800 fps, a far cry from 4055 fps.
Accuracy is good, eight of nine steps in my ladder were under 1.05", two were under 0.6" . However H4895 has slightly tighter groups, similar velocity and costs half as much. I have the powder now so I will experiment with it. Wish powder was available in 1/4 lb trial sizes.
