A few pointers needed!

G'day guys,

Sorry if this has been about before but i am new here and not great with computers.

I have a rem 700 sps varmint with i guess standard 1:12 twist and was wondering if anyone has one/had experience with one and knows a load that it loves?

Also was woundering if i could get some info on the following and what loads are used, what powder, what you shoot them at and wether or not they are good or should stay clear from? or suggest one that u prefur for the 1:12 twist?

26gn barnes varmint grenades

32gn sierra blitzking

32gn homandy v max

32gn nosler spitzer ballistic tip varmint

35gn berger match varmint

39gn sierra blitzking

40gn berger match varmint

40gn hormandy v max

40gn nosler spitzer ballistic tip varmint

Any advice will be muchly apreciated and once again sorry if this is a repeat or in the wrong section!

You did not mention caliber of rifle, but I am assuming it is a 204R.
I do not own a Remington rifle, but my suggestions would be to start with Benchmark, and RE10X powders with any of the bullets you listed. These 2 powders seem to produce good shooting loads with most rifles in 204. Another possibility is H4895 powder. My 1:12 twist Howa in 204 likes all of these powders. My best loads are 32gr. Vmax over Benchmark. But my best producing load as far as groups and skippy goes, is 39gr SBK over RE10X. My choice for 40gr VMax is H4895. H4895 is the only powder I can get the 40's to shoot a decent group with.

I will, also mention that with the 39gr SBK's, I have the bullet seated as close to the lands, as I believe, I am able to still have enough bullet in the brass to achieve proper bullet tension and stability. I do have to load 1 shell at a time though. this is acceptable to me because the rifle is too heavy for me to pack around, and my shooting is done off of a bench.

IMHO...The 39gr Sierra BK is the magic bullet for the 204, and good powders to try with it...H4895 and RE-10X

I've had 3 204s all REM 700...Never could get very good loads with 40gr NBT.

yes the calibre is 204 ruger! Since i was posting in a 204 ruger forum i didn't think to add that. Sorry for the confusion!

But thanks for the reviews everything helps! I've herd nothing but great things about the 39gn sierra blitzkings. And alliant re-10x seems to be a popular choice for most.

I'll throw in RE-15 & Varget. None of my Remington's likes a Hornady 40gr bullet. I never bothered with the 26 grain pills either. I just stick with the 39SBK, they seem to work well for me.

My remmy wont shoot the 40 grain vmax but will shoot the 39 grain sierra well.
Best groups were with benchmark and varget.

Boomer. Both the 32 & 39 Sierra Blitzkings work well. I also have shooting a lot of 34grain Dogtown or Varmint extreme bullets. They sell for less than others and for me, seem to group and shoot just as well in the 204. Their 55 gr bullet works, for me, also in the 223 or 22-250. You might want to give some they a shot also. I've got a tuned load using 40gr VMax bullets that I'm happy with. But my wife came across the 26gr Barns and said we should give them a try.

I put 27.7 gr of 8208 XBR behind a few. Devastating! Still haven't had time to do a full check out but at 200 yds they were spot on.

I have shot Sie 32 and 39 gr BKs with Varget,BL C (2),and IMR 8208 XBR.The latter is the least temperature sensitive powder on the planet.I have three 204r in different type actions,so haven't explored all the combinations.They all shoot under 1/2".Also shot 35gr Bergers,and Dog town (33gr?).Now trying 32 gr Noslers in a 20 Ackley Bee Contender

for my savage mod. 12 i have been looking for a good load and read of a shooter using re-10x using 32 gr. nosler bullets. i tried 26 gr. of re-10x, 26.2 grains and 26.4 grains and with that last one i got a very small 3 leaf clover that measured .185" but had a 1" flyer. this was on a windy day with some snow in the air. i will have to spend more time developing this but it shows real potential. c.o.l. was 2.250". range:100 yd.

My Remington 700 SPS does very well with 40gr Vmax and 39gr Sierra BKs using either 24.4gr of Reloder 10X or 26.2gr of IMR 8208XBR. I had terrible results with the Berger 40GR BTHP.

boomer' I'l bet ya that its gonna be a matter of just starting somewhere, and giving it a whack.

The tried and true for me were (1:12 24" and 26" barrels) 20 Berger, 32 VMax, 40 VMax, 32 SBK, 39SBK. I stuck with Benchmark with all of these, and could count on 0.5" 5-shot groups @ 100y. usually better when I shot well and wind was not an issue.
