bulge shoulder

i get a bulge at the base of the shoulder from the seating die. sometimes i get an indent in the shoulder from the full length resize die. the bulge seems to be more predominant when there is the indent in the shoulder. i lube when i put it in the fl die but not to seat the 204 32g bullet. i think this is a flat base problem ? have not seen any threads on this.


this can make the bolt have a little resistence when closing. do not really wish to use the chamber as a swage to form the case back. if i could solve this issue. i think seating issue.

With flat bases bullets the 28deg champhering tool makes the seating much easier.Your necks may be sized too tight.Your FL sizing die should be cleaned and checked.Clean and lube the inside of the cartridge neck with dry lubricant,before sizing.Set the die to just touch the shell holder.Sizing die:run a empty case all the way up and screw in the seating die untill you feel it engage the case mouth,then back it off 1/2 turn.Back off the seating stem and seat a bullet,measure OAL,and adjust as desired.When sizing the case there should be a nice easy lubricated feel going both ways with the case.If it drags coming out,you need to check the expander ball,clean,and lube the inside of the neck,or both.Hope this works for you.

for the fl die i camm over. for the seating die i back it off a whole turn else it crimps. rcbs. you mean like a dry graphite lube ? the lube i had been using is the rcbs stuff. thank you i will give the dry stuff a try. also i will recheck the dies.

Midway also has these small dry powder boxes with sized brushes.I use Motor Mica (white powder),but always brush the inside of the neck,unless you clean cases before every loading. Do you measure your fired cases,then measure again after sizing?Wilson case cage will tell you ,if you are within specs,as will a bump-shoulder-gage. set on a caliper.Caming over your sizing die,could be moving the shoulder back too much.With the ram up,no case,screw the sizing die down untill it just touches,then lock it.If the case chambers smoothly,you need go no further.

the guy at the shop said that he never heard of a 28deg champhering tool. he did have a 22 ? i was not sure if he meant 22 deg or for a 223 or 224 case. i did not get around to asking but i think he meant 22 deg. got some graphite lube. am loaded up for the range so it will be the next time i reload that i will change the procedures. maybe a week or so. not sure when.
