The EPA denied the petition from the loonies today August 27, 2010. Here's the link to the letter of denial: http://www.epa.gov/oppt/chemtest/pubs/O ... sponse.pdf

This was posted on Calguns.net today.

They will check into lead fishing sinkers though.

Wow, Glen. "I didn't know if this was true or not but I posted it anyway" ???? Turns out it wasn't true. With all due respect: America has enough problems without having people stirring folks up with problems that don't exist. The EPA never did "want to ban lead ammo"; they were approached by some groups who did. I have to answer to the EPA on my job, and can attest first-hand to some of the chicken----, redundant, and silly laws/rules they force on citizens, but I don't like to see anyone falsley accused - regardless of whether I'm "for" or "against" that party. (I might even give the EPA a teeny bit of credit if they help preserve wilderness - including hunting and fishing areas - from excessive urban sprawl.) Incidentally, the EPA was the formed under the (GOP) Nixon administration; would bet that Theodore Roosevelt would have approved.
Thought this was a .204 forum, not a political one...

The reports I saw on Fox said nothing about the "EPA wanting to ban lead". The reports I saw correctly stated that the EPA was being petitioned by outside parties to consider the ban and that it was doubtful that it fell under their jurisdiction to do so as the NRA was arguing in briefs presented to the EPA.

The EPA simply agreed with that analysis and rejected the petition..

Stating that "the EPA wants to ban lead" is a far cry from the fact that they were petitioned to consider a ban by outside environmental parties not a part of the EPA..
