I am looking for a Stock for a Winchester Model 70 in 243. Here is the problem it was passed down to me by my mother who is 5'1", not a midget but close. The walnut stock on this rifle was cut to fit her when she was 14 years old. I dont like punching myself in the face every time I shoot it so I will replace the stock and keep it for my son or my daughters if they would like to hunt. I however need a hunting rifle for deer and this will work well.
The Serial Number on this one is 704xxx so that makes it one of the first production models after 1964. Most of the sources I looked at for dating this rifle state that the manufacturing change in 1964 started serial numbers at 700000. Its not one of the "classics" but it was passed down so I will keep it.
On the bright side it shoots straight I shot a sub 1" group at 100 yards on factory 80 grain ammo with iron sights.
