Launch or disintegration?

Which do you prefer?

My son and I were talking about a rockchuck blasting day we had last year. His 6mm Remington with 75 grain hollowpoints was essentially a disintegrating death ray on them. Little left beyond some messy fur after a hit from that thing...

The most memorable .204 hit literally launched a 'chuck from his rock! I chuckled and my son was laughing so hard he had to stop shooting for a while!

Or... Do you like to combine the two? Launch and disintegrate?

I like LAUNCH. My FAVORITE is the "Texas Heart Shot"....nothing better than a launch this way.

I have to say I like both. Best one I saw was a P.dog I shot out west at 700 yards. He was sitting on top of his mound. Hit him dead center with a 210 Berger out my 300 Wby imp. Launched him 3 feet in air befor coming apart and painting the mound red. My shooting partner saw it all take place and was making all kinds of comments.
Very easy to find the mound when looking thru a spoting scope or your rifle scope.

Guy: If given the choice, I perfer the "launch", but in pieces.

The classic one is the "twister launch".....the rat launches upward, twisting from bullet rotation, and while doing so, loses his innards in the opposite direction. Literally spectacular. When he lands, he looks like twisted rope, and his innards are 25 yards away. Great spectacle for all.

It's tough to launch a groundhog but by golly I've tried!! Usually just end up with something like this on the good ones.



Then I have the old "If you aint gonna do it right give me the rifle!!" Wife. I have this one on video!!

all I have to shoot out west are the small Belding ground squirrels and when they are hit with a .204 they do both the launch and disintegration.

Ahhh. Yes, the "launch factor". It IS my favorite and when captured on a still photo, I consider it as "prairie poodle art". That is a great work of "art" Rick on that piece of "green canvas".
Hopefully I'll have another batch of "art" to display very soon.

First three ground squirrels I shot so completely atomized I thought they were misses. Later hit one that left a bit of skin behind, so went back and checked again. The rocks the others were sitting on were damp with little pinkish flecks of tissue. It rubbed off on a tissue paper! .257 Roberts Ackley with 75 grain Sierra HP's - seldom had such an effect again. But when hit right they partially disappear. Close as I could come these days is:



The intestine draped over the plant at the bottom right make this a partial "spiderweb" shot. Rest of the anatomy was laying around as little fragments of hamburger - even the head was mulch! No air time though.

I like the launch factor accompanied by the disintegration factor. Now, that is truly satisfying to me!
