Possibly no more 20 cal finished barrels from Krieger

Post by Mike »

Just got off the phone with Krieger, ordering a new barrel for my AR. I was told there is a very good chance that Krieger will no longer offer finished 20 caliber barrels due to very high spoilage rates during the manufacturing process. This is not definite yet, and Krieger will still provide 20 caliber blanks, but I wanted to pass along the info.

If this holds true, I will have the very last 20 caliber finished barrel that Krieger makes. Sure glad I called today and didn't wait any longer!

May be a dumb question or I may be a tad bit brain dead on the issue. Here it goes....
What exactly do you or they mean by high spoilage rates?

Krieger ends up scrapping too many barrels in the manufacturing process.

After thinking about my conversation with Krieger today, it dawned on me that they might only be talking about 20 cal AR barrels. When I talk with Krieger again, I'll seek clarification on whether they're considering the end of all 20 cal finished barrels or just 20 cal AR barrels. I'll also have to give a range report once my new barrel comes in and I get the chance to work up some loads for it.

I opted for a 24" .920 diameter 1:12 twist varmint barrel.

I suspect that's it - just thinking that they'll continue to offer .20 cal barrel blanks for those of us with bolt action rifles.

I sure hope so! :D

They'll continue to offer 20 cal blanks for the AR as well. The guy at Krieger told me that they might stop offering finished 20 cal barrels, but that blanks would still be available.
