Savage issues-HELP?

Post by Song Dog »

I got a new 11fyxp3 223 package and a Predator Package 204. Here are the issues, if you have any fixes please provide. If I need to call Savage I will take that advise to.

11fyxp3-The bolt will not catch the 2nd round. It will if I only have 3 rounds in the gun. Its to be a 4 shot so thats my issue.
Edit to add: Its only the 2nd round when with a full clip.

Predator- The 4th round when pushed forward by the bolt will kick sideways and the nose of the bullet hits the chamber and won't go in. I tried doing it at different speeds and it keeps doing it.

The thing that irritates me the most is they are both brand new and got them this week. I might be able to understand one gun could have an issue but its both.

Are both of these equipped with the detachable mags?

Sounds like an alignment issue with the clip/mag well alignment or the lip is bent on one side.

Both bolts are standard push feed.

Song Dog,
Are both of these the new centerfeed actions then?

Of the two that I have seen, I don't believe Savage has quite got it right in the feed department.

I had to bed the centerfeed internal mag well into the inlet in the stock, it was not sitting straight or high enough to routinely feed rounds.

Wow!!!!! 2 brand new ones and both with issues. Sorry to hear that.

Don't know what to tell ya on that one. Mabye fiddle with the mag boxes a bit.

If that don't help than send 'em on back to Savage for repair. They are stand up in that department. They should only have them for 2 weeks and they will take care of them. They'll issue a call tag for them and have them picked up UPS the following day usually.

Here is the service number rather than calling the toll number: 1-800-370-0708

Eric is one of the better guys to talk to so if ya get a chance, ask for him. He may be able to help ya a bit better than the others and ya may avoid having to send them back in.

Keep us posted on your progress!

Older models had a leaf spring and worked a little better. The newest ones have a coil spring that binds up when you fill the mag. I replaced that coil with a leaf on one rifle-easy to do. Why not just load 3 with one in the chamber, that 5th shot at a running coyote will not get you many hits.

Thought of doing the 3 n 1 but it is not to be that way. Especially if new. I'll call Savage tomorrow and see what they say. I'll keep all informed.

Its the top lip of the mag. Rhetts needed pushed in a bit. So I got a daul screw driver and lightly tapped it. Its now, so far, is feeding the 2nd round now :D .
My predator needs to be pushed out. I tried prying real lightly but it still sends the last round int the side fo the chamber. She did say if a smith would not charge an arm or a leg they would repay me for it. All is good so far. Just gotta work on mine a bit.

I just hope I don't have to send mine in. Surely a smith has a shop close. After the anticipated wait for the rifles, then get them and have to send one back would stink.
Have you ever noticed as grown ups we revert back to little kids when we get new guns. Actually I LOVE IT :D

I agree with ya! It sucked but what made it all better for me was knowing the guys with the utmost knowledge on the matters were taking care of it!

AGREED! Right now, for me it's the anticipation of a possible build in my future! :D :D :D I can't WAIT and as of now it's only a thought!

Well, with Rhetts taken care of, I am sending the Predator back. Rhetts gun was simple enough I did it but the Predator... na, they can do it.
Hope it comes back better than new
Now the anxious, anticipated wait starts all over again. Wow! What guns do to a guy. Gotta love it.
