Remington R-15
Remington R-15
Has anybody tried the new Remington R15? I see it's available in 204 as well as 223. I'm thinking I would like to own an AR be it Rem, Bushmaster etc, but will probably wait until the rush dies down a bit. Not sure if I'd go for a lighter carry version or a heavy varmint. Probably mid-heavy. Might go to a 22 cal to differentiate the ammo, or I may just stick to the 204 and try nickel brass or something for a solid visual reference.
I guess I'm wondering if this new venture fior Remington is in the same league as the others that specialize in this type of gun.

Re: Remington R-15
Better not wait too long........there are no "black" or camo rifles in my home town, and none at Sportsmans Warehouse in Chattanooga, Tn. Don't wait too long, for obvious reasons.

Re: Remington R-15
I have not shot a R-15, but I have heard mixed opinions on both the new Rem. and S&W AR's. I have shot Bushmasters, Rock Rivers, Olympic Arms, Colts, and Armalites. And I own 2 Superior Arms AR's! If that says anything. I liked the Colt and the RR, but I talked with the 2 gentlemen that started Superior Arms and they worked for Rock River for many many years and got tired of putting together parts kit rifles as they said. They said the majority of the parts they were putting in the RR's, others had made.
So they went off on their own and they make the majority if not every part that goes in theirs. There is no slop between upper and lower. The finish is very nice, mag wells are tight but not too tight. I have gotten several sub 1/2 MOA groups with both mine.
I am not trying to downplay any rifle or ruffle any feathers. I am just giving my personal experience and personal opinions. Their are many good AR platforms. You have to decide what you like and go with that, b/c man are they fun and even more ADDICTIVE!!! Good luck. -Dan

Re: Remington R-15
I with danny if you can afford I would snatch a AR up ASAP..... The racks in the Fort Bragg, Camp Lejuene area are pretty much stripped of them I grabbed one on election day as my statement on the 2nd amendment
It does not take a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men....
Re: Remington R-15
Looks like a nice piece (Superior) and I'll put that one high on my list. Demand has moved them away fropm the 204 and strictly to 223 for the moment FYI

Re: Remington R-15
At 6.75 pounds, That R15 carbine in 204 Ruger would be one heck of a coyote gun/Christmas gift . I think that's the lightest AR platform in 204 Ruger on the market . Sure would like to hear some hands-on reviews.

Re: Remington R-15
TD-MAX, I have the 20" bull and I threw some cheap MIDWAY USA 55gr bulk bullets behind some H335 powder for the PD trip this summer. They grouped between 1/2" and 3/4" for 5 shot groups, I called it good. Going to do some load development this winter. The Superiors are just AWESOME shooters!!!! Now I just got the 16" M-4 for a lighter shooter. Seems to be just as nice, can't wait to shoot it! -Dan

I see Superior does not offer one in 204. Did ya ever ask about one in 204?....I held a R15 carbine this afternoon, can you say LOOSE AS A GOOSE!! The trigger also had about .050 of creep. If they Fix the trigger and the slop between the upper and lower, It would be a sweet carry rifle. I would love one in 204 just because of it's 6.75lb weight. $600 maybe.....$1100 NOT

Re: Remington R-15
I picked up a 22" R-15 the other day. I does have a bit of slop between the upper and the lower, and I was able to work the trigger to 3.5 lbs and no creep and no overtravel with some minor mods. This is my first AR, but I am very happy with it. It is a .223 Rem. The Remington rep told me that the 204's wouldn't be out until this spring. So far, I have been able to get several .600" 5 shot groups with it without much effort. I only have a 3 x 9 scope on it and with a 3.5 lb trigger, I am pretty pleased. Those multiple dogs that come in from now on better say their prayers.

Re: Remington R-15
Hawkeye, They said they have been thinking about a .204....but I will have to ask again b/c when I talked to them about that it was almost a year ago. I think the .308 boys have been on them for big uppers too.... The big gun show is in Des Moines this weekend and I KNOW they will be there for that. Will have to ask again. I bet a Superior .204 would be super sweet, b/c I know their .223's are very accurate. On the R-15 sounds like you would have to pick up a accu-wedge to help with the little "loosie goosie" problem. I will have to weigh my new M-4 16" and see how much it is b/c I love how light it feels compared to my 20" bull. I don't think it would be much more than 7lbs at most though......
Mossback, you are gonna love that thing PD'in! They are tons of fun!!! Just don't have any bolt gun buddies around that will get jealous on how fast you are poppin them off.
Lata fellas! -Dan
P.S. TDMAX you still have to let us know what you decide! Just make sure to take lots of vitamins b/c BRD WILL sneak up on you! (BRD=Black Rifle Disease)

Re: Remington R-15
I also played with a R-25 .308 in winter camo. That was nice and tight but still had the creepy trigger. I wonder what kind of accuracy/velocity the R-15 carbine with 18 inch barrel in 204 would have. For some reason that gun interests me. The 223 with 18 inch barrel I played with felt like a toy it was so light. I just liked it. Top one off with a Bushnell elite 6500 4.5-30 and it would be one heck of a critter-gitter . I need to be ready for the woods and open fields.
Mossback
Keep us informed on how it shoots after you get a couple hundred rounds through her. I'd like to see what she'll do at two and three hundred yards. Somebody makes a front hinge pin to help with the fit issues, "IF" the R-15 uses standard pins. Not sure where I saw it though. Maybe Sinclair.
Dan
I'll send them a email also. One thing I do know, My next AR will be a lightweight in 204 for hunting. I was planning on surprising myself with a new 204 for Christmas. Looks like it's not gonna happen. Might just have to get that Savage laminate thumbhole 50cal smokeless muzzleloader for deer. That felt sweet also .

Re: Remington R-15
When I got out to Missouri last week, I stopped by my cousin's for a visit, and he dragged me off to his shop straight out of the pickup.
"You'll like this', he said, "I finally got a Savage".
It was a blued in Tupperware M/L, and he had two targets right there with it, 3/4" targets at most, using 4759, I think it was, and Hornady 250 XTPs(.452s) It's his first M/L and he's pretty happy with the results, I would be, too! He's put an old Lyman All-American straight 4X on it, and he's ready for the late season now.
