Just got back....

Post by Keith in Ga »

from Montana after a weeks pd/coyote hunt. Shooting was so-so the first few days of the trip, with clouds, light rain, and cool weather hurting our shooting. We had several good mornings, then the evening would pretty much be lost. Then on Monday, our last day, it was sunny all day long. I shot over 250 rounds that day! My total ammo count was around 825 rounds for the trip. And of course, there was WIND, but there's always wind.
We hunted coyotes several mornings and evenings, and the coyote count was five. Man, it's hard to hide in those wide open spaces! I don't think those western coyotes are quite as sharp as the ones here is Ga. We got by with a lot of movement out there, that would never work here in the east. We had a great trip, I'm really getting spoiled with those trips to Montana. Got to start loading again for next years trip (I hope).

Keith: Glad you made it back okay and had a generally good time, as I know you were looking forward to the trip for quite a while. So.....over 800 shots eh? How many more is that from a week of being at home in Georgia? ;)

Post some pics later when you get a chance.

Acloco, we were shooting near Baker, on some private ranches. Our guide has a few standby ranches that we have hit for the last 5 years. This time, one field didn't produce, don't know if the plague hit or what.
Rick, this trip was up in the air too. Had to have emergency hernia surgery one month ago yesterday, so I was nervous I wouldn't be able to make the trip. Dr. said I was good to go, except getting my buddy to carry my gun case. I did get "bounced" around some, which he said to avoid, so hopefully I don't see any bad results from that. Actually, I shot more on this trip that I usually do in June. Those Cooper rifles really performed well. Shot 32 gr Blitzkings in one gun, and 39 gr Blitzkings in the other. Both were deadly accurate. You're right, even a bad day in the Montana fields beats shooting paper here in Ga.
